Onboarding a simple fruit merchant in El Salvador

PLEASE DO NOT send me sats to this post! If you like it, send to the salvadoran we've helped in this l"ittle project" helping people to get onboard. bellow you will find her LN Address.
Few weeks ago I spoke with @MrM (he live in El Salvador for many years) about how to help some poor salvadoran people, to get onboard using Bitcoin and also helping them with a small attention, a gift, something they would remember that Bitcoin did for them (and NOT any bank or fucking government, but simply bitcoiners).
So @MrM went to find a perfect candidate to help:
  • lives in El Salvador, a local that still didn't started with Bitcoin
  • simple, humble, with not too much money
  • if is a merchant of something even better
  • if they have a bill to pay and we could pay it with bitcoin, much better
  • if not, then buy a gift for them, from a merchant that accept Bitcoin and in this way starting that Bitcoin circular economy
And we've found one: her name is Lorena, a street fruit merchant, going on the streets of Chinameca, a humble village in El Salvador. If you are bitcoiner visiting El Salvador, just go and buy some fruits from her with sats!
Her Lightning Address is: tecolota@blink.sv
I sent her a nice tip with a message, to remember me. If you want to send her more tips in sats, you will make her a nice Christmas gift. Don't forget to add a message to that payment, even SN wallet support that!

Sending the Christmas gift !

So, the process was very simple and super fast!
I asked if she have a pending electric bill or something I could pay with sats. So she had an electric bill from a local company Grupo AES EEO El Salvador, that are directly listed in Bitrefill (@bitrefill - nice one that you offer them a way to pay electric bills!)
She gave me the NIC (an identification number for her bill) I just inserted into Bitrefill supplier page, next screen was a confirmation of her contract details and the pending amount to be paid.
I just clicked "pay now" and I selected LN invoice. Paid the LN invoice and DONE !
No fancy KYC, no bullshit screens, just a simple confirmation and done.
I am glad that I made happy a salvadoran, s simple gesture, not too much money, but for them is nice that somebody from around the globe is paying her electric bill with bitcoin, without borders, instant, no intermediaries, no bank, no governments.
I hope this could be an example for other bitcoiner to do it!
I will continue this "little project" with more slavadorans, together with @MrM.
MAY THE BITCOIN BE WITH ALL SALVADORANS!
How about the we do the 12 days of Christmas?
Does @MrM have 12 Salvadorans we can send zaps to? We zap one per day for 12 days leading up to Christmas.

What do you think @siggy47?

Indeed wasn't too much. That's why I posted her LN address in the post. So others could send her more sats. This whole experiment, is not about making these people "rich", is about making them think about Bitcoin and show them how to use Bitcoin, even cross borders without ANY restriction. because this is the power of Bitcoin: nobody can stop you using it.

"adopt" a salvadoran for Christmas.... the Secret Bitcoin Santa. Small gestures that make them think about.

Fantastic idea! I tried to tip her LN address without success. Anyone else have a problem?

I finally was able to send it. Very satisfying. Once you get the fever it's addictive. Any more worthy addresses?

don't feed the assmilkers... We all want to help these people, but let's be aware of the scammers.

A few months ago I had an experience where I had someone from a less fortunate country do some work for me. He offered to do the work for what seemed like a ridiculously small amount of money. I paid him triple what he asked and it was still a small amount of money for me but it made him happy and he was doing great work.
That got me thinking, this asymmetry is a great thing for Bitcoin adoption. Sending someone in another country a small amount of money can be a life changing experience for them. It's only by removing by removing banks, governments and fees that this is even possible. Bitcoin fixes this.

I know is not too much in terms of $hitcoin fiat, but is a nice gesture and an example for many to do it. Did you do it also? If any bitcoiner will do the same, a small gesture, more salvadorans will start having more confidence in Bitcoin.
