Back in my early days with bitcoin before I knew better I bought two ledger devices. Then my email was doxed by their crappy marketing software. Then I learned how much privacy you are losing by using hardware like this.
If you had a couple of these devices what would you do with them. I will not give them to new bitcoiners because they shouldn't use them. I have offered to sell them to a couple shitcoiners but they had no interest in self custody. Go figure. I could put them up on eBay but I'm not sure how I feel about that.
What I have landed on is keeping them as reminders of my early mistakes in my journey. Kinda like a bitcoin landmark of shame.
Use them as your fake hardware device that is easier to be discovered than your real stash
reply
I should put some shitcoins on them to make it even better.

Dude... why didn't I think of that. I take back what I've said about you Brandon!

👍🏽

Gift them to your enemys / fake friends
reply
shitcoiners will love them. They deserve them.
reply
I guess I don't know any... They all leave their crap on exchanges.

are many here :)

Maybe I should post an ad on SN then.

Not how I roll

Use it as a FIDO/U2F login device. Factory reset and restore from a seed generated on more trust worthy hard ware (e.g. fire up Coldcard or Seedsigner and generate a bip 85 child seed from one of your cold store seeds).
If the device is lost or broken easy to replace and restore.

Another good answer. Here's how to do it with Coldcard.

Keep and practice different Multi Sig setups on Test net with them.
I also agree with POTUS recommendation of "fake hardware device"
reply
Another good idea.

You can sign transactions with Sparrow and Green Wallet. With Green Wallet it's not common sense and it took me some time to figure it out but it's possible.
Just don't update your ledger if it signs..
That being said you might consider that the original produced seed may be compromised.

All Bitcoin already exists, it just hasn't been mined yet and the stuff locked away hasn't been unlocked, yet. If it unlocks too easy it will loose value and if it unlocks too difficultly it will not be suitable for spending.
All your Ledger are belong to us.
reply
Oh yeah, I'm not using the seed produced by the ledgers for anything. I consider them compromised for sure.
You lost me here, what does this mean.

Oh, are you just explaining how bitcoin works here?
reply
I'm no expert but any stretch of the imagination. I'm just a pleb.

The last comment just didn't make sense to me in the context of the question. I get what you are saying.

This comes from my earliest understanding of FOSS Free Open Source Software and in particular Linux. You can totally make your own Kernel but it might not work with anything else. You can make this and that might happen. As a business if you think you are smarter than your customers you are stupid and if you assume all business has 100% your interests in mind you are stupid.
Bitcoin is the best money but it's got to evolve constantly by users, security and usefulness. Mathematically we've identified it as Bitcoin but what it is has always been here and just needed to be discovered.
Once the rug-pull has been identified then your security is obscurity and not really security at all. Everyone does stupid things. Everyone unhappy does even more.

Love it

Sell them to shitcoiners!

Is there no privacy focused hardware wallet?
reply
Seedsigner, Coldcard, and Foundation devices.
reply
There should be a way to return it back to the company as a way to get a discount and buy a new one
reply
Did you read the description of this?
reply
Wouldn't they have worked on privacy by now per request of users
reply
Nope, their target market is more normies that don't understand the threat model of a bitcoiner. They don't care is the impression I get from their CEO. As for returning it I bought them years ago. There's some great advice in this post though so I know what I'm going to do with them now.
reply
Donate them out
reply
Already said I don't feel right giving them to people.
reply
Just don't upgrade the firmware & use with sparrow or electrum.

I'm curious what is the best cheap as Ledger alternative?
Lately I found an option to install Jade blockstream software to T-Display or m5stickc
reply
Seedsigner. Cheaper, open source, and better.
