It makes you think about what you want out of the deal, for sure. If a person was viewing it in purely economic terms there would be a tradeoff between curating the territory for "purity" vs what would garner the most sats.
I wonder how this will play out in terms of the usual outrage harvesting that you see on advertising-driven media. Will be interesting to see how direct financial effects change that; and how territories use different strategies.
I will keep fees low in ~security and ~oracle as long as possible. There isn't any spam in there yet (I actually have to post most stuff myself) so why use high fees? It just feels like rent seeking to me.
If I see a territory using high fees for no apparent reason, I don't feel like the founder thinks they are going to make it with lower fees. Which further means they don't really "believe" in the success of their territory. But maybe I am just overthinking it. Maybe I think ~security and ~oracle are not going to make it on high fees? lol
I'm trying to use low fees if possible to be welcoming. High fees only if necessary. But it's also an "growth hack" attempt.
I wish I had read this before making the ~monero territory haha...
It's good to take a peek into the psychology of it.
At the end of the day though, 50k sats is just really steep for something niche. Unfortunately, it's like the Joe Rogan effect, or the long tail effect, to be more technical. Similar to the 80:20 rule. Basically, the ~bitcoin territory will garner 80+% of the posts and thus make @k00b filthy rich (speculating).
Meanwhile others in the long tail are going to have to be okay taking a loss every month (again, speculating).
In fact, I'm surprised there are as many territories as they are. People got loads of cash sats to burn it seems.
Only six territories are profitable for the month. afaik we haven't crossed more than 10 be profitable any month yet.
My plan is to make territories invite only (inviters must be existing territory founders). That way people don't feel blindsided - the inviter is like a concierge.
What is this territory about then? I assume it’s not about shitcoins. If it is about cryptography, you could just name your territory a bit better, don’t you think? like cryptography, for example, to avoid confusion. Or is there a “bio” somewhere I am too blind to see?

"crypto" was used for much longer for cryptography than "cryptocurrencies". The "crypto" part in "cryptocurrencies" literally stands for "cryptography". :)
I named this territory ~crypto on purpose to make everyone aware that we "actual" crypto people won't give up this term to shitcoiners without a fight.
fwiw, you can post about cryptocurrencies here if you want since as far as I am concerned, cryptocurrencies topics can also be about the involved cryptography. But don't expect that is the main purpose of this territory.
cashsats to burn it seems.
