I always felt (or at least as long as I can remember) that foxes are my spirit animals. However, I never looked up what that actually means.
I only know that I always liked the dedication of this fox even though it's kind of retarded to try to survive in a frozen wasteland:
However, recently, I realized: Maybe I am indeed also kind of retarded.
I am laughing at this post like I laugh at the old me, but in a good way if you get what I mean. I think you're a smart dude with a lot to offer. You're also young and kind of retarded. That's OK, you'll grow out of it.
However, at least currently, I don't think I want to grow out of it. I want to embrace my retardedness, whatever that means. I want to use it as kind of an armor (or superpower) like Tyrion tries to explain to Jon Snow in this scene:
I want to show people that they cannot trigger me because I literally don't care enough what they think (about me) to get triggered about what they think (about me) [0]. I do care what people think (about me) to some degree. I think it's important to constantly and consistently reevaluate your views on the world. And the best way to do that is to allow others to challenge your views. Else, you might get totally out of sync with people and lose yourself not in the music, but in yourself. I think that's also the reason why I like (possibly way too much) to challenge other people's views - even if I might agree with their view. I want to find out if we agree for the same reasons or if they just happen to have the same view but for the "wrong" reasons. I do this because I really think I am doing them a service, they just don't get it yet, lol.
Stating possible facts should not make me angry. It should make me think and evaluate if what the other person is saying is bullshit (which means they are wasting my time) or not bullshit (which means it's plausible and I might have to think more about this before I can reply in a productive way).
But more about my potential retardedness in a future post. Back to foxes as spirit animals:
I also used to try to imitate the laugh of Dixie and Finnegan in a evil way when I was teasing my ex-girlfriend in some retarded way [1]. I was also able to be very cranky like Dixie when she didn't let me sleep past noon because I couldn't sleep before 4AM because I just had to finish something on my computer before I could join her in bed [2].
Fox Spirit Animal The fox is often associated with the figure of the trickster, but as a spirit animal, it can also turn into a teacher providing guidance on swiftly finding your way around obstacles. If you follow the fox totem wisdom, you may be called to use or develop quick thinking and adaptability. Responsive, sometimes cunning, this power animal is a great guide when you are facing tricky situations.
Fox Symbolism The symbolic meanings associated with the fox are:
  • Physical or mental responsiveness, increased awareness
  • Cunning; seeing through deception; call to be discerning
  • Ability to find your way around, to be swift in tricky situations
  • Affinity with nocturnal activities and dream work
[...]
Fox spirit guides and deception The fox is known for sneaking into homes and getting away without being caught. Because of it’s characterized by its cunning ability, this animal has acquired the image of trickster in a number of cultures. [...] Following the fox totem wisdom, look for any area of your life where you may be cunningly led to do something else than you would in all reason do. Use discernment in your choices and actions.
And I have to admit: some parts are actually scarily accurate. However, as mentioned, I don't care too much about what other people (or sites) think about me, so I also think that maybe, if I would lookup other random spirit animals, I will also find some parts with which I can identify myself with since our brains are pattern-recognition machines.
But what about you? What is your spirit animal?

[0] I know that's currently not true, especially when it comes to people talking shit about cryptography, lol. Also I seem to be too retarded to figure out how to use proper footnotes on SN. [1] But we both liked to imitate animals in general, lol. [2] I know that wasn't cool because apparently, bitcoin was sometimes more important to me than spending time with her. But at least only sometimes and not always?

Good one. I never saw one in the wild (except as road kill) until I took a trip to Florida two years ago. One had a burrow right next door. I would drink my coffee and watch his morning routine. Incredible looking creatures. Scary and cute at the same time.

Elephants!
Strong. Intelligent. Wise. Peaceful. Maniac(when needed).
reply
Fun fact: Elephants are one of the few (?) animals (like humans) that can be vengeful.
This means that not every animal will try to get revenge if you have killed their offspring, for example. They will defend their offspring, but when it's dead, they "don't care anymore". Assuming I understood this concept right. Don't try this at home, lol

I recently came across a majestic tucker in the wild during a hike in south india. It was about 100 meters away watched it tear down a big ol tree in 30 mins while munching the tree's bark.. Wouldn't know what tree, possibly medicinal

An evolutionary anomaly. Proof that nature has a sense of humor.

I think they lay eggs? Mad animal…
reply
The platypus can simultaneously lactate and lay eggs, making it one of the few species of animal capable of manufacturing its own custard.
Interestingly, there are also several species of bird which can produce milk, including flamingos and pigeons (seriously).
reply
Forget a Lambo… I want flamingo milk in my coffee!
And I once watched a flock of flamingos fly beneath me whilst I was in a helicopter. Quite incredible and a beautiful sight. A few minutes later one smashed into the cockpit windshield… but that’s another story.

I'm glad you asked. I found a photo, refreshed my knowledge and spurred a little discussion. I gotta thank the guy who stirred up all this context stuff :)

Where? :)
I gotta thank the guy who stirred up all this context stuff :)
Yeah, I think he must have been an evolutionary anomaly of SN. Hopefully he keeps evolving with SN :)

Well, one comment, anyway. But, it was from @carlosfandango, one of the finest stackers, who has tons of content shoved in his giant brain. I count a reply from him as worth 6 or 7 from your average stacker.

I can assure you my head is quite normal sized…and my solitary brain cell enjoys the space lol

How do you know what your spirit animal is? Do you just decide on one or is there some sort of table you can reference? If I can just decide on any animal, how do I know the one I picked is indeed my spirit animal?
Sorry for all the newbie questions. I'm totally new to the concept of spirit animals and don't know how this all works.

These are good questions. I actually don't know. I just always liked foxes for some reason (they are cute and kind of a mixture of ~DogsAndCats) but I never really took this spirit animal stuff serious. Only now I looked into this thing and realized I can see myself very much in the description of them as spirit animals. This site does have a table with all kind of animals though.
Maybe you can just click on some animals you like and see if you can see yourself in the description?

I think you just have to "feel" it. However, I have a feeling that @Natalia can tell us more about this when she's back from Christmas :)

Thanks for the thorough reply.

I don't think that really works, because like you said, humans are very good with pattern recognition and will probably see bits and pieces of many of these general descriptive phrases in ourselves.
Lately, I've been feeding 2 crows that live in my neighborhood. I think they are smart and pretty cool, as they can recognize me and knows that I will feed them. They also killed 2 rats for us and would chase away other crows that try to stay in or near our yard. So the amount of bird poop on our cars and around our proerty actually decreased a bit after i started feeding them. I guess our home has become their territory. Anyways, I'm just going to claim that my spirit animal is the crow.
According to the site you shared, crows are intelligent, fearless/audacious, flexible/adaptable, related to magic and mystery of creation. But they have negative qualities like manipulative, mischief, trickster like behavior, cunning, stealing. So basically, if I'm a crow, I get to be Loki.

Mine is a Yellow Jacket but they aren't around this time of the year.

How do you find what it means?

This site pretends it knows: https://www.spiritanimal.info/

What writing a post on SN means for me:
10% actually writing the post, 20% finding good links as references to make me look smart, 15% percent of not giving up because it seems to take way longer than expected, 5% thinking how many sats this post will get, 50% proofreading since I hate making mistakes = 100% reason to remember my name
