Interesting to watch this unfolding in Argentina on many levels.

Agree! I can't look away. Rare that we get to see such radical experiments like this.
Really hope it works out over there, I live in PerĂº and we have loads of Venezuelan and Colombian migrants here now looking for a better life. I'm wondering if in couple years we may be hearing a lot more Argentine accents and people drinking Fernet on the streets of Lima.
Time will tell and I hope my brothers and sisters in Argentina have brighter times ahead.

There is essentially zero reason why government should ask you to declare assets that you own. Taxes should be on income or consumption, not passive savings. Doing otherwise is just an invasion of privacy, and economically distorting.

Not even on income. That's also an invasion of privacy, especially if income comes from abroad or from cyberspace. Income tax is a relic from the industrial era, where big businesses could be easily forced to "withhold" wages from the employees. Taxes on consumption from physical places will unfortunately still happen because it's easy to force physical businesses to pay.
But it's ironic than an "ancap" is doing this. LOL.

Woods' Law: No matter who you vote for, you get John McCain.
I didn't realize it applied internationally.

Agree this is a huge red flag from the "libertarian" president elect.

ahaha he needs the money, so he wants to get people to declare it (you realize he's talking about taxing what hasn't been taxed before...... right?)
in exchange for it, he won't ask questions as to where it's from. which should be the rule in any case, fuck AML, but I wonder whether this is part of some other backroom deal going on...
