Hello devs, hackers, plebdevs, stackers, no-coders, AI bots, and beyond! This is the founding of the devs territory here on stacker.news
I'm Austin the bitcoinplebdev from Austin and I wanted to start a devs board for sharing tips, tricks, hacks, libs, bips, nips, gists, and everything in between that will help us level up as devs.
Whether you're a seasoned pro with years of experience or just starting out on your coding journey, this is the place for you!
A bit about me:
  • I'm currently working as a freelance web developer out of pleblab in Austin, TX
  • I run a dev education community called plebdevs where we learn about Bitcoin/Lightning app development with courses, workshops, and 1:1's: https://plebdevs.com
  • I work on stackernews a bit as a contributor
  • I work on nostr, prisms, zaps, nwc, and much more with: https://makeprisms.com
  • I post a lot of side projects / example projects / templates / boilerplates on my github (All my work is ugly but it is open!): https://github.com/austinkelsay
  • I'm good with Python/JS/Typescript/React on the frontend and backend
  • I'm currently learning Rust :crab:
What I'm gonna do as the owner of ~devs:
  • Keep posting costs cheap (until it starts getting spammy)
  • Focus on interoperating with nostr to allow your content to reach the widest possible audience and enable you to receive more zaps
  • Create a daily devs hangout post M-F to share short stories, advice, tales of bugs, and of course memes.
I would also love to hear any ideas you have or what you would like to see out of the devs territory
Onwards!
Thank you Austin. I'm interested in command line scripts for Bitcoin and Lighting. I'm running Bitcoin Core but I don't have a Lighting node yet. Looking forward to some good posts.

Finally. Another place to make fun of Javascript. We can't have enough of them.

Most hard things I've ever done is because people made fun of me TY!

I wonder where SN is on this curve because of our crazy rewards bug where Javascript decided concatenating two variables as strings (that were stored in a number type) makes more sense than adding them up like numbers.
reply
I think the inverse of this meme needs to exist as well JS can be hot garbage and there's definitely a case for devs to migrate over to more strongly typed languages especially for server side stuff
I like how mutiny does it, use JS for the frontend, offload almost all of the math/logic operations onto the server side

I am learning pyhton now, I am not a dev, but I like Bitcoin and I think tips and tricks and hacks will be nice to know. I have my own btc node but I am not doing too much with it.
reply
Awesome! A great way to start getting your hands dirty is learning how to interface with your node using Python
We did a CLN Python workshop recently for plebdevs HERE (might be a bit too much for an absolute beginner) but in general interfacing with Bitcoin core at the very least is quite easy and you can start building programs/apps from your own node!

Hey my name is Gort,
Brought here around a year ago, but now that I have some open time I'm looking to work on some projects. Help the bitcoin ecosystem!

Which projects you like?
I'm interested in self-hosted AI models being paid via lightning. That's my jam lately.
