I'm excited for the journey into the open source world. Currently the pixel/graphene are secondary and I'm still using an IOS and phone number with ATT. I'm not really sure what will/will not be possible with the new pixel. Here's what I would like to accomplish with it:
-purchase no KYC data with bitcoin -install a lightning wallet -pay for a coffee with said lightning wallet. Is that possible?
I have yet to ever connect this pixel to a wifi because i'm ignorantly hesitant to do so. Shouldn't I be able to never connect it to wifi If i purchase data with bitcoin? I don't even know if it's possible to put a LN wallet ona graphene phone but i imagine Mutiny will be a good first try. I remember seeing a great post with suggestions for purchasing nonKYC data with bitcoin but after a few SN searches i couldn't re-locate it.
Really, I'm in over my head. Progress will be slow in this area but at least progress is being made. Are there any bitcoin/graphene group chats that can be shared? I'll need many questions answered i'm sure.
I've been thinking about this....one thing that I can really wrap my head around yet (@siggy47?)
Since the 6a has eSIM - is it possible to get a US Voice / Text / Data account with no kyc and pay via bitcoin? I've been looking around for this and most such accounts appear to be data-only.

I know https://www.keepgo.com will accept crypto, and you do have to sign up with an account. Now... what info you sign up with, it is KAC, Know A Customer. That customer could be John Doe with a disposable email maybe.

I think @TonyGiorgio has a lot of information in this area, but I can't find the post.

I bought a pixel phone and put graphene OS on it. I don’t have any Google play services on it and because of that, I cannot use an eSIM. I learned the hard way it had to get a refund.
I think it’s pretty stupid, but apparently I cannot use an eSIM unless I download Google play services and that’s something I’m just not gonna do.
Also, you can’t use android auto… and there’s a few other things, but whatever. We use Graphene not for the convenience, but for the privacy

Very cool thank you man!! I’m working on silent link now… I’ve already paid for it but I haven’t yet figured out how to use it! I have my purchase link. It seems like it will be mandatory to install the sandbox Google play in order to use the silent link Esim….
Love the coffee link. They’ve been on my list for a while.

I can't remember if you must use google play. I'm not sure why you would need it.
Another coffee link (USA): https://sats.coffee/

I'm not sure where you're going with this? Why wouldn't you want to use your phone on wifi? I'd argue you have a more secure/private device if you never connect it to a cell network.

Because I don’t understand it and am ignorantly paranoid. Trying to dive into the privacy world is overwhelming when you’re this tech terrible. The bad guys will get in.

who are the bad guys? FAANG won't be snitching on your wifi

Congrats! Love to see the graphene gang growing. Have you got Obtanium installed yet by any chance? It will be your portal to all FOSS apps.
For those that want to do the same and get on Graphene, we’ll be doing a ~privacy pub challenge later this month.

Thank you! I will be boosting my activity in those communities.

Welcome to the graphene world! I have it on a 7.

Thanks Siggy! I read a lot of your journey just today after the successful flash. You seem to be attempting to make your pixel phone your main and only phone. That's certainly a long term goal for me.
Right now though I would like this phone to be nothing more than a bitcoin phone. I don't know if it's possible but I would like to only use this phone like a wallet. I'd like to remove any bitcoin affiliation from my iphone and switch to graphene.
I'd like this phone to facilitate my lightning activity. Currently I have a single large private channel open (via umbrelOS) with ACINQ that i use to pass sats back and forth to my pheonix wallet on iphone. It works extremely well and it's a fun way to manage my own liquidity as I spend/replace/earn bitcoin.
ultimately I would like to move all of this lightning activity to open source options, starting with graphene.

Do you have personal experience using this service? Do you know the difference between the “DATA.PLUS” and “NO PHONE NUMBER” plans? The features listed seem identical.
reply
Haven't used it, but I see it recommended a lot.

Welcome to the bright side! ⚡
There are some eSIM providers that accept Bitcoin although I can't really make an endorsement on them as I haven't used them (see comments).
I have personally bought coffee with Lightning in real life on my device.
What makes you hesitant to use WiFi?
reply
Ignorance! I feel so out of touch with tech and especially anything freedom oriented. I’m overthinking it I’m sure.
I have purchase many things with lightning via my iOS phone but it will feel special to do so with a device that I’ve paid for with cash, flashed a FOSS OS onto, and a FOSS LN wallet that’s been loaded from my own LN channel. What a time to be alive!

The only good answer I have for this is I found a never-used fully unlocked pixel 6a being sold for cash a good price. otherwise ignorance.
