@Public_N_M_E's Feel Good Friday post in the Music territory gave me the idea for this post.
In 1962, American singer-songwriter Sam Cooke (legend), released a song called Having a Party. If you are unfamiliar with the track, listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-5zlj49ugk
Although I was familiar with this song, I had long forgotten about it until recently when I heard it on the radio while driving. While listening I made a mental note that Having a party can easily be heard as Halving a party if you try hard enough and it got me wondering if Stackers were planning to do anything for the Halving.
I know it is uncertain when exactly block 840,000 will be upon us but wondering if anyone has any interesting plans and if not shall we all try to be on SN for somewhat of an informal Halving party and cap it off with a zapathon?
Thoughts?
I am so up for a halving party. Could do a live event?? That'd be awesome.

What do you mean by live event? Like NYE? Should @k00b go live on Stacker News Live ala Dick Clark and announce the event? Definitely we at least need a confetti animation for zaps for at least one block.

I hadn't got that far along in my thought process. Perhaps k00b going live for SN live for the SN party would be really cool.

Funny enough in 2020 the halving coincided with Consensus Expo which was in NYC that year. I was planning to go, but covid shutdowns cancelled that.
Isn't there something happening in Austin around the halving? Seems like a bitcoin-only conference should have a happening then?

I might actually go to a halving event, but I'll have my phone and I'll be ready to zap.

Well, aren't you a big man about town?
Pubkey?

No, I don't even know if they are halving (sp?) anything. This is a bunch of more local bitcoiners. No firm plans yet.

Nice. Even better.

Just checked four different sites and got four different numbers for the estimated halving time. The average was 72 days from now which brings us to a Sunday. With a little market help maybe it happens the Saturday before, on April 13th. NiceHash was an outlier at 59 days so it'll probably be more than 72 days. Better to halve the party before rather than after anyway. I'll be satisfied to join as many live streams and spaces as I can around that time.

I noticed this variance with NiceHash as well as I checked their date first and thought to myself "that's earlier than I expected".

I think it's a great idea! Also grooving to the song. Could be a theme tune, yes/no?

Very cool but I don't think I will be travelling across the pond for a party. Appreciate the invite though.

Me and the kids will get 1/2 & 1/2 pizzas or something fun like that

Sounds like the best plan

The halving will be on April. Yes, I have a plan for the "after halving" periods (around 3-4 months). I want to DCA in Bitcoin, but not in the "classical mode"... Right now, I just accumulate my fiat money (a fixed amount weekly), and I will buy BTC after halving, BECAUSE I really believe that after halving, and after FED will start to cut interest rates we will have a crash in markets, and we will have the opportunity to "buy low" ;) So...this is my plan.
Btw...a Halving party on SN is a good ideea, and I'm in to make a zapathon!
