We are responsible for trying to promote our own territories with posts and we pay 100k sats to SN each month. One of the perks should be that we get to post for free in our own territories (with no 10x increase within 10 minutes too). Ain't nobody got time to wait 10 minutes when trying to bring engagement to their own territory, The owners aren't going to spam their own territories with pointless stuff, so we don't need to be rate limited.
I opened this as a feature request on the SN GitHub so please support this idea if you are in favor of it. https://github.com/stackernews/stacker.news/issues/787
I'm totally agree. I'll eat in my restaurant "for free", in the end just subtract it from income

owners aren't going to spam their own territories
Is that a certainty? My understanding is that those limits are partly about avoiding spam as something that irritates users, but also to avoid it as something that can actually harm the site's functionality. Maybe @ekzyis can expand on that thought, I could be totally off base.

Nah, that's not part of it. That is a champagne problem. We can't prevent this from happening. With more users, more requests will come. We just need to scale our database up (like we did a few days ago). Limiting individual users because of this wouldn't help.
So it was only to discourage spam / encourage posting good content.

regardless, I don't believe owners paying 100k sats a month are going to spam enough to do harm on purpose. Maybe implement some code to prevent 10 posts in 1 minute or something like that.

I hear you. The value proposition on territories needs to improve and these ideas seem like pretty low hanging fruit.

I agree, or at least it shouldn’t escalate. What priority do you give this request relative to others?

I never knew that you have to PAY to run a territory. What kind of incentives does that create, who would pay to publish content? Advertisers. Having people pay for territories doesn't build a community, it creates incentives for external people to generate revenue on this site. I realize some die hard fans might pay for their own territory, but those will be the exception long term.
reply
You own it but you don't really own it
reply
Agreed! Incentives in this model don't make us want to extend on ~apps, for example
reply
Agree with you 100%! I upport your initiative!
reply
I would vote no to this.
Everyone should have the same rules for posting.
Creating a territory gives you control of that area of SN. You shouldn't have the ability to spam it.

Certainly seems fair to me 👍

100K sats per months is a lot I think.

I couldn't agree more.
