This post from @siggy47 #413854 got me thinking.

The propaganda war continues. Be ready for your friends to start repeating falsehoods and the daily group think like "Bitcoin mining uses 2% of all the electricity in the US" [1] and "More than small countries"

Bitcoin is uniquely suited as the only industry that can make an impact on reducing wasted energy at scale.

As a community, everyone who cares about bitcoin succeeding can make a difference by making their voice heard. Everyone who has the courage to speak up has the power to impact the cultural acceptance of bitcoin.

If you care enough to see bitcoin succeed, do not just stand by and watch people make uninformed and false claims.

The Biden Administration in the US is trying emergency data collection measures on bitcoin miners

There certainly will be legal battles about this latest regulation, but anyone who cares should speak out against this type of overreach.

I'm not sure what the best approach is, but I feel like there are enough passionate people who care about bitcoin that we can make a serious impact.

Curious what others will have to say. Personally I'm not concerned. If the US tries to crack down on mining (and I think they will) it will really just hurt the US. It won't hurt bitcoin. Just as the China ban didn't hurt bitcoin.

Personally, I don't try to convince people about bitcoin but if the topic comes up I try to drop facts and info that they may not expect. I vary it based on the audience. I don't take the same angle with progressive friends that I do with conservative friends. The nice thing is that if the person is honest and open to learning the facts are on bitcoin's side.

We will win. Curious what others will answer. Not sure what plebs can do to help the mining companies. I think they have to fight this in the courts and if they can do some peaceful non-compliance. Maybe they can pool their resources and fight back with some propaganda of their own. Maybe they can sue the DOE. They better get ready for a fight though. Everyone should have seen this coming and I suspect it is just the beginning.

I agree that it will hurt the U.S. But collectively they don't see that. So they might end up shooting themselves in the foot and going down the route that leads to less people being able to use bitcoin freely.

I'm sure most people here would like to be able to use bitcoin without the threat of the state coming down on them no? Yes, bitcoin still works even with totalitarian governments, but if we want bitcoin to be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible we need to make sure that governments aren't cracking down on it and that people have a different view of it culturally.

Winning over the minds of the people matters way more than bitcoiners think IMO. We don't want Bitcoin to be a niche technology that is only used as a last resort to overcome tyrannical authoritarianism, we want it to be understood and accepted by as many people and governments as possible.

I'm with you. I just doubt many people will be open to bitcoin until they actually need it and see the need. Its my belief that for many people, possibly most people it will have to get much worse before they open their minds.

FUD and lower price = good for me.

Corporate Bitcoin mining getting fucked and pleb ninja miners profiting = win.

The type of people who think the government should decide who deserves electricity, and not buying Bitcoin = good.

I want to see Bitcoin be accepted in the United States by both the people and the government. Regulations cracking down on the industry makes bitcoin less available to the people there.

Sure cracking down on bitcoin won't actually kill bitcoin, but it significantly affects people's ability to use it freely without the concern of the boot of the Feds.

Most people will not use bitcoin if it is not convenient or if there is a threat of the state coming down on them. Only in the case where they have no other choice, would most people resort to using bitcoin IMO.

I bought a Satoshi Action fund shirt that mentions bitcoin mining and wear it around. If people are curious I give simple data points like most energy is wasted, methane flaring vs capturing, and just the timing of renewables, e.g. wind produces most energy when we use it the least like at night and when its cool but not really cold so no one is using AC and not much heat. Keep it polite and simple. Rabid ESG fanatics won't ask anyway but you may catch a few curious bees with honey.

Bitcoiners should be able to rally around a shared cause and make sure that people know why it's so important.

Completely agree and what makes me excited is the Satoshi Action Fund, along with many others that are making moves to make sure the narrative around bitcoin mining changes for the better.

It’s all bottom up so it’s taking longer than we’d like but if I take a step back and think about how things were 10 years ago, the narrative shift that bitcoin mining is good for the environment is moving in a positive direction, kinda like the bitcoin price on a chart. Ups and downs but the trajectory is up.

I think we need a territory like ~StopAntiBitcoinPropaganda to link discussions around stuff like this (or other FUD e.g. recently there was a shitcoining submarine on the r/LightningNetwork subreddit)

we should be making a lot more art about it. Memes, murals, posters. Remember the impact Banksy had? Because his art was primarily political. And people vibed with his art because it told them something about the world they lived in. Bitcoin has a treasure trove of meaning to share with the world, and we're doing a piss poor job of relating it. You don't win hearts and minds with rational arguments. You win it with art.

US will crack on Bitcoin mining just to favour Elites. If US does this prices of Bitcoin will fall and they will get the opportunity to buy. Manipulating at its best. Nonetheless, I don't bother with these things at all, instead I am ready to buy at lower prices as well. I am a concurrent buyer, buying Bitcoins every now and then without looking at the prices too much
