I was discussing with some guys, and we were split. will eventually everyone understand how to manage their own bitcoin wallets, keys, nodes etc. Or, will there be a large amount of custodial institutions? or, is the transition to a bitcoin standard going to necessitate both. laymen will level up their understanding and services will develop was well.
same way uncle john uses tcp/ip

All you have to do is head over to Reddit and look at the subreddits for any hardware wallet; Trezor, Ledger, Coldcard, etc... the number of people that still do not grasp the blockchain, public/private keys, security is fairly large.
Bitcoin has been around for 15 years now. We still have a long way to go before the average person starts self-managing their assets. Look at the early internet; the early adopters hosted their own servers, websites, email. Nowadays, everything is a managed service. Bitcoin will probably go that route, being a managed service, whereas those techie/hobbist/nerds will still be in full control of their own assets.

It will be custodial - because they don't care. Hopefully it's anonymous chaumian ecash banks rather than insolvent fraudulent fiat banks doing the cuatody

People are lazy and stubborn to change. People that know how to navigate the Bitcoin-jungle will always be a minority, custodians will be needed for the masses.
