This episode might snap you out of the NGU joy bubble as you watch the price climb. I'm really glad there are voices like Whitney Webb and Mark Goodwin pushing back on this ETF euphoria. Concrete examples like previous spoof trades to suppress and control the price of equities and gold are in our future.

Perfect I need someone to slap me across the face occasionally to keep me humble.

I do not like the affect of these types of shows on some people. People like Peter who is becoming a libertarian kicking and screaming. It may take him years. The programming is deep. I know, I was programmed as well. But it is so sad to me when I hear people all spun up about what the media is hyping. He stated he was terrified about the election. I get that. I have friends that are right there with him. I also think it is really dumb. The media hypes everything to the max. We get spun up about stuff outside of our control. And if you actually believe in democracy, in the systems that "run" the "free" world it is very unsettling to learn that its all bullshit. Its why so many just never open their minds. Its to scary.
Focus on what is in your control. If you wanna vote. If you think that will help. Go for it. Vote. Then when you don't get what you want spend the rest of your time building wealth, security, and health. Build a strong family and circle of friends. These are the things that matter. The things in our control (at least in most of the west). But most of all. Do not lose hope in the future. We have hope. That hope just isn't in the state, democracy, or politics.

I just had two conversations last night. With a democrat friend and a republican friend. They want to talk endlessly about the special election. I always tell both of them that I don't care. That I'm not interested. It is impossible to get either one of them to believe me.

Yep. btw. I think I've been wrong about Webb. At least what she is saying seems very sound to me. Not alarmist. Either she has changed or my initial impression was off.

Fear sells. That's why they crank the machine up to 11. Don't bite. You see the game now. Don't go back to sleep on purpose, but also don't let a bunch of suits, pundits, and talking heads rob you of peace. Gotta play your own hand in this life.

Goodwin seems to be confused about libertarianism. Most are all on board with shutting down government services/agencies and allowing private companies to replace them. I know he's focusing on CBDCs but all bitcoiners are not libertarians and all libertarians are not bitcoiners. Plenty of libertarians do not care about these topics. Plenty of libertarians have no issues with shitcoins, CBDCs, or any private money. Many are also bitcoiners...
His points on Javier Milei are not new. Its hard to say where he will land. Like all politicians its more important what he does vs. what he says. What is unusual is what he's saying. I do not think Milei is a savior. The bitcoiners that think that are naive. It is very possible that Milei is a puppet of power elites. Maybe he wasn't from the start. Maybe he isn't now. This is the problem with the state. It runs on corruption. It is a corrupt institution. The incentives are all wrong.
I'm not ready to dump on Milei. Here's the deal. I think Argentinian would be better off in private sector hands. Even if they are evil like Blackrock. It is probably better than socialism. We get so obsessed about this stuff though. Its honestly dumb when you think about it.
I don't live there. What I think doesn't change reality. What I do has impact on my life. I should focus on that. Ignore the noise. Bitcoiners aren't really making an impact from their keyboards on politics in Argentina.

There's a part of this ETF negative view that sounds a lot like the money laundering criminal argument to me. If bitcoin is really money. If it is really something of value people will use it to scam (paper bitcoin). They will try to game/rig it(stocks). Something of value in a free world will be used in ways some do not like. Bitcoin doesn't remove scams. It makes it possible to not have to trust others. It still comes down to choices.
The points that Goodwin makes are valid and he is pointing out that way to many bitcoiners don't really understand the power elite and how the world works. There are plenty of libertarian larpers that do not understand WHY we need bitcoin. Many lessons will have to be learned. Fink wants to use bitcoin for his own purposes. He has a lot of power. He will not control bitcoin. I keep waiting for the explanation of how that will happen. He could screw a lot of people out of money. He could affect price by his voice.
I go back to this being inevitable. If it wasn't Fink now it would be someone else later. Just as bad people use the US dollar and bitcoin. Fink will try to use bitcoin to do what Fink does. I do think many in bitcoin are excited because the ETF is a signal of a new phase on the path to bitcoin eating everything else. Many just aren't saying that. This whole ETF thing is such a grey area. Not all bad, not all good. It just is.
Stay humble. We haven't won. Stack sats. Don't sell your bitcoin and buy the ETF paper bitcoin. Use bitcoin. Study bitcoin. Learn why it was created. Learn why we need it. Learn that we no longer need trusted third parties.

Thanks @siggy47. Now I have to listen to this. Not a Webb fan. Hope I'm wrong about her but she gives me scammy vibes for some reason. I can't really put it in words but I don't trust her. The last WBD she was on didn't give me the vibes I've had before. Maybe I have misjudged her.

The real shock for me is Mark Goodwin. I'm not a Bitcoin Magazine fan, but he really impresses me. You really don't need any of them, though, to see the potential for bitcoin to be manipulated and controlled. Just look what financial institutions have done in the past to securities, gold, silver, nickel, etc.

I'm intrigued. I'm always looking for problems and risks with bitcoin. Everything has risks. Everything. Its all about tradeoffs. My thing with this ETF stuff is really what are we to do? ETFs were inevitable. My guess is, stay humble. Stack sats. Use and support the open source software. Maybe home mine if you can. Teach the kids about inflation and how to escape it. Stop supporting the beast. I'm doing my part.

I feel the same way. There's nothing we can do but make others aware of the danger. The basics still apply. We of course need to self custody. I run my node, I'm saving my sats for an S-19, use Linux and graphene, and I am setting up a private server. The only chance I see is to think decentralization in all respects,-ownership, nodes, mining, exchanges, etc.

Some things Webb said reminded me of this.
@siggy47 if you like Webb you would probably love the No Agenda show. Seems like she's coming around to their perspective on politics and media.
