Fixing bitcoin by changing issuance results in bitcoin, and also a hard fork coin. Splitting bitcoin into two hurts bitcoin (e.g., SegWit 2X, BCash fork). Hopefully this does not gain support of any significance.

It definitely is weird to see so many against tail emission which is all about making bitcoin more secure for decades to come.

I doubt it's going to be necessary. It would subsidize transacting at the expense of HODLing. I'm not convinced one way or the other, and I think the decision should be left to a future generation.
