Last week I posted Jennifer Rush's Power of Love saying that track was probably on every Rock or Soft Rock compilation mix tape I had in the 90s. Alannah Myles was probably the next female artist with Black Velvet

It can be quite a compelling arguement at times. Vocal changes, slight differences in mannerisms etc etc. TLDR the theory goes, she died and was replaced by her body double because she was making a record label too much money and they weren't done milking the cash cow yet.

All very interesting... I had a quick look at the "official narrative" on Wikipedia and the guardian, which will of course be the opinion they want everyone to have. I'd never heard to this before. Have you seen the comparison photos of Swift/LaVey? that's quite a likeness. There's definitely a lot going on in the industry... I think someone posted a link about Katy Perry recently and I was going to come back and comment later (but forgot) about a video at an awards show when she was married the Russell Brand. He told her off for swearing on daytime TV then got a little plaque out, which he distinctly held up, with the word "obey" on it. It was really spooky, her whole demeanour immediately changed from there on. People were surmising he was her handler at the time. Another time she talks about how she wanted to be like Amy Grant but it didn't work out so she sold her soul to the devil.

Great rock sound. Shame they never did an English version as I think the band would have gone down rather well in the UK in the late '80s. I'd have definitely stumped up £8.50 to see them.

French music never went worlwide (or a little) as many countries in the world (and it s not for a lack of artists)

I think that's such a shame because of how beautiful it can sound. There's lots of Spanish songs worldwide (but also Spanish is the 2nd most widespread language behind English).

Germans done pretty well globally within certain niches eg. Rammstein.

It is a shame that french music doesn't get the time of day. I mean I don't speak Korean but I know that BlackPink are a worldwide bestseller. In my view, you don't have to speak the language to appreciate the music. Sure there's some nuance and clever lyrics that you may miss by not understanding it. But that's what googles for, go look it up later and then appreciate how clever it was yaknow?

Agree, in their own language they can be huge but still limited to that geographic market. Unfortunately "Big" music isn't going to get behind them for the US, UK, CAN, AUS & NZ markets where there's big bucks to be made, but it has to be in English. Would Abba & Roxette have done as well singing in just Swedish?

Nearly the end of Monday and I've just time for one last femme fatale or maybe it should be fatales. A cracking country version this AC/DC rock classic. Shania has a great voice but to get AK & Union station as your backing band is something else.

Dimming Of The Day - Alison Krauss & Union Station

This is my most favourite cover of this song written by Richard Thompson. It think it's a difficult song to get right but Alison nails it. Can't fault it.

I think maybe I just had a Bonnie Raitt album and a Richard Thompson album around the same time. I'm going back to Britannia Music club days here. They sent you tapes in the post and if you liked them you kept them, if not you just returned them. Hehe those were the days.

Just realised this is the last Femme Fatale. I was lining Trisha up for next week. These two are fairly well known as they featured in the films Con Air and Stuart Little 2 respectively. Amazing voice

Agree, she has such great talent and very comprehensive back catalogue. I believe she did a cooking show and maybe some acting.

These are two great tracks. She has so many it's difficult to make a choice. I think one of my favourite tracks of hers is Real Live Woman, which is also appropriate for Femme Fetales. I'm annoyed I didn't think of it 🤣🤣

Yes it really is 7 minutes and 39 seconds 😆 but it's a belter. What a voice.

If you are getting Meatloaf Vibes it is because this song is by Jim Steinman. According to Steinman, the song was inspired by Wuthering Heights, and was an attempt to write "the most passionate, romantic song" he could ever create. I'm not going to say any more but you can read further here (according to Wikipedia) if you like.

Yes, it's shame. I don't really don't remember the Pandora's Box version being that popular at all in 89. I think Meatloaf but especially Celine made the song much more well known!

Absolutely. And I'm not going to lie I had to Google it. Because I was about to come in here like "yeah that's a great cover 😉" and point to the meatloaf version as the original, but no it was Pandora's Box. Personally being a huge meatloaf fan, I'd heard his version first but Celine also beat him to the punch in 96 as meatloafs version was released with Norwegian singer Marion Raven in 2006, 10years later for Bat out of hell 3.

So I concede to Celine on this 😅 she put together an incredible version of this song. She deserves all the recognition she gets as an amazing singer.

Such a sad sad story 😔 she was an incredible vocalist and musician. I have nothing, is one of those songs that always goes straight up to 11. May she rest in power. a true icon.
