Linux Is Freedom. Now is a good time to switch, it;s not crappy like it used to be! This is a good explanation showing one way we can give the control freaks the finger. Let's not lock ourselves into the hell the feudalists want to foist on us.

As the big corps move towards making us "own nothing" it's more important than ever to defy them.

I will be switching to Linux soon..attempt number who knows how many over the past 15 years. Make no mistake though, it is about as crappy as its ever been for the user experience, and you will find yourself diving into terminal commands often to get things done. Linux cannot and will never be able to deliver a mass market consumer experience similar to Windows or Mac.

Unfortunately, this for many - myself included - is often a deal breaker. I just don't have the patience to deal with Linux. I don't want to bother with the command line, and I don't typically have time to google on "how to do x" when it literally just works in Windows. Every time I have had an issue, it has always ended with a Linux maxi telling me that Linux is ultimately an operating system for people who love to tinker.

I use Linux for all my server and sysadmin needs, but I have low confidence switching this time to it for a desktop experience will be any different than the previous.

I've got tempted with Linux countless times and always got stopped because lack of integration with some specific software I use and fear of shitting things up because not knowing what I'm writing on the command line. Anyways, I should try it sometime...

Theres little to nothing you need the command line for any more with distros like linux mint. You could always try it out on a virtual machine for a while first.

Thanks, using a vm sounds like a good/safe idea. Any recommendations on where to start? I'm a total noob.

sorry for the delay! I have not used VM in a while now, not on local machine anyway. There is oracle's virtualbox which is free. https://www.virtualbox.org/ That's a good place to start, and I think Linux Mint is very similar to windows or mac, and would not be too much of a stretch to use.

Is freedom but people who need to use anticheats or some specific driver, is discriminated against, and no, a opensource generic driver not work at same performance.

I am running PopOS myself and could not feel better - on Tuxedo machine. Maybe I could have chosen Dell or Toschiba and fork Windows off but this is not bad at all!
