Fleetwood Mac - The Chain

To celebrate the opening weekend of the F1 season here's the song that is synonymous with the F1 coverage in the UK for 30 something years.
That middle of the song bass beat then guitar riff means only one thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z-dJ35fOiM

Didn’t ‘man in a hat’ Jamiroquai do it’s replacement theme?
reply
He did, after the BBC lost the rights to ITV in '97. It's an almost impossible act to follow. In 2009 BBC won the rights back and "The Chain" was reinstalled and when coverage moved over to Channel 4 in 2016, they kept "The Chain" as well. Smart move This music is Formula One. It is so ingrained in to the psyche of a nation, to change it you're on to a loser

I did not expect to find myself in an F1 history lesson today. The places we go and the topics we discuss. You lot are the best. 👊

Welcome to SN lol

🤣. We found ourselves down an Avril Lavigne conspiracy theory the other day. The wild west is wild. 🤠

Hold on to your hat at all times!

Sundays without Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’ , Murray Walker and James Hunt falling out, just feel wrong…
reply
Them were the days, they were one of the best double acts on TV. You knew as soon as Murray said "he's only got three more corners to go to win the race" you knew they'd run out of petrol or breakdown

‘There's nothing actually wrong with the car except that it's on fire..’
‘He only has laps 48,49,50,51,52 to go…’
His father was a motorsport journalist and they were apparently very close. Murray was a tank commander after landing at Normandy and was making his way through France. Stopping at a refueling point he found his Dad there who had taken a job as a war correspondent to see how his son was getting on!

Fleetwood Macs the chain is an incredible track. I only recently (a year or so ago) became aware that Evanescence had done a cover of it for the gears of war franchise (no idea how I missed it because I've played all those games). So here's Amy Lees Vocals doing the chain https://youtu.be/M2kgcpZX42w?si=jgrfos1U99TWMPBF

And our boy Harry Styles did this cracking version on the live lounge
reply
Ooooo that is good. Kid done good, as they say.
I got one more version of this, but more meat to it. A little heavier but somehow has a lot to chew on.
reply
F'ing superb Thanks for sharing that beauty
reply
Yeah I dunno what it is about this version but it might be my favourite. His vocals give it so much grit, the guitar harmonies at the beginning were 🤌 they stick quite close to the original but with (and I've got no other way to describe it) just more meat on the bone.
reply
Yeah, like you say, they add more meat to the song but without going over the top and losing it to a whole load of distortion, its very well produced. The big riff in the middle is so well done, on his knees, hair going, proper rocking out. It's going on the playlist 😁

Pleasure to have been of service.
And I completely agree, he is killing it. It's clear they're all having an absolute blast whilst doing this track. And when musicians are enjoying themselves, I think you can hear the difference between that and going through the motions.

I approve! Awesome rendition. If I close my eyes it feel like I could back in some dark, grungy rock club with very sticky floors, drinking watery lager from a plastic pint glass 🎸🍺😂
reply
Wow, never heard that before, cool. Massive, operatic feel
reply
It's a very different feeling to the track. Almost a darker feeling to it, kinda ominous I'm some way. But still kinda cool.
