Howdy newbie,
So you posted your bio and are inundated with Stackers welcoming you. Some ask you to “stay humble, stack sats”.
Stacking sats, you understand. After all, that is why you venture here, hopefully through my referral link. But just what does “staying humble” entail?
@Bitman asked the exact same question, which you should check out. So I’m not gonna rehash Stackers’ responses.
I’m going to demonstrate what it means by “staying humble”.
Back when I was new to SN, I spent my two free sats posting on “watershed moment in crypto” and “Sweatcoin”.
Needless to say, I didn’t get a warm reception. One of them said, “Fuck crypto”.
Now, if I wasn’t humble and reacted angrily at his comment, you wouldn’t be seeing me here. I could have attributed his comment to the BTC Maxi stereotype and dismissed him as a rude and arrogant and obnoxious person who is so stuck in his BTC ivory tower and refuses to acknowledge other possibilities.
Luckily, I didn’t do that. Instead, I said something to the effect of “I will repent”.
It was a throwaway comment said in jest, but it netted me 10 sats. Which was enough to give me a second wind on this platform.
Kinda.
I deleted my subsequent post out of shame. I think I wrote something about different types of crypto investors. I attracted some strongly worded responses.
Again, I could have left this platform in a huff, feeling wounded. Instead, I zapped them. Admittedly not much, but 13 sats might have been the typical zap amount last year.
Instead, I stayed around to find out what makes Stackers tick. Bit by bit, I understood their mindset. Some of them are already receiving their remuneration in Bitcoin. They are living life on their own terms, free from the fiat chains. They have zero need for shitcoins, where Bitcoin serves their life purpose very well. They have even little need for Bitcoin to pump because they are working on their stacking spending replacing tactics.
Because I was humble to learn, I gained access to this wonderful way of thinking. Now I spend my sats freely on Bitrefill gift cards, knowing that I have enough to cover my grocery expenses. I barely care about how much BTC is worth these days. I’m just as busy as a beaver, stacking sats.
So my Padawan, stay humble, stack sats. Don’t take things personally.
Sending some happy sats to @Bitman for his excellent question.
Somewhere 5000 BC Guy: "We are going to use gold as money." Other Guy: "I traded all my gold for bananas. Let's use bananas as money instead!" Guy: "You fucking retard, what the fuck have you done, get those rotting bananas out of here." Other Guy: "😭 Why are you so mean to me?!"
(Glad you stuck around!)

You are hilarious! You motivated me to find out the reason for rotting bananas. Maybe I will use it to take part in Fun Fact Friday next week haha:
Most bananas in stores are subjected to ethylene in agriculture warehouses which jumpstarts their ripening and once started, they ripen much faster than untreated bananas. Due to the quick ripening those bananas don't have an opportunity to develop the complex flavors and sugars that slow ripening provides.

I went through the same here. This post relates to my experience and I suppose with most others when they are new. People need to understand one thing for sure, if bitcoin can serve the same purpose as most other imposters (i.e. other chains, tokens, layer 2s, NFTs blah blah), why do we need them and why should we think of them? Aren't all of them are chasing the same purpose without the same sovereign, democratic and revolutionary principles of Bitcoin?

At the risk of being shunned, I am just gonna say that some altcoins serve purposes that may not be so effectively fulfilled by Bitcoin. For example, the Singapore government is using the Ethereum blockchain to verify government issued certificates (like vaccination certs). Surely we don’t want to overwhelm Ordinals by doing likewise.
But ofc there can only be ONE Bitcoin Standard, which explains why I’m here haha

Hey Sensei, thanks for the sats and your excellent post.
I'm certainly glad that you stuck through your initial shock.
For me, you're ability to get through this, and reflect upon it, certainly shows you do have humility.
It's interesting to see that some strong bitcoin only proponents are, open to the idea that there could one day be a better currency than Bitcoin - without a lot of knowledge, bitcoin is less than private. However, they're well aware that Bitcoin is the best that we've got and it's unlikely that it'll ever be bettered.
In response to you being initially schooled - it's understandable but also a difficult one.
I feel that most will have the motivation to sway you away from being hurt and drifting towards 'altcoins' a future of regret. In the impersonal online world it's easier and quicker to post a rough and ready response.
Their approach may be far from subtle - perhaps when used in combination with a character that epitomizes rough and ready treatment, perhaps it can be taken with a pinch of salt.
But sometimes there's no time for subtlety.
You'll obviously remember me mentioning Aesop's tale of The North Wind vs The Sun, you'll know that's one of my favorite tales.
I feel these pearls of wisdom need to be employed wisely, in the right occasion though.
For instance, would this advice be helpful if the tale involved a person teetering in a fog at the edge of a cliff?
If the goal is to save them a gently, gently approach wouldn't be appropriate: a more immediate response might be better.
However, I'd imagine that the tale was written for people who need to learn a deep lesson about subtlety.
Responding with appropriate force, can be more difficult though. One needs a certain amount of benevolence in the heart.
Clarity is important. Anger and hatred doesn't produce clarity, it surely only can impair the vision.
I'm glad you've stuck around - and you've proved you have the humility too.
Best be easy on entertaining the thought of having bitcoin students though, even in jest.
One thing I like about posting here is the knowledge that people mainly use critical thinking skills.
As a teacher yourself you'll know of teachers who've tried to fake it till they make it - or been narcissistic and had the pack forensically dissect them and it's the teacher who learns the lesson.
I guess this brings us back to humility and poor communication again - and both can be quite absent when online.
Although I'd like to carry on, my health is worse than normal today so I'm gonna have to rest.
But keep on being a teacher - be the best you can and keep that other circular economy alive - that of learning (as well as sharing) Bitcoin wisdom. 🧡
