I can’t believe I haven’t asked you guys this yet. Especially when work is such an integral part of our being.
I think I was indoctrinated by people’s attitudes towards work on crypto forums on Reddit. It is the norm to rattle off stock phrases like make f u $, shitposting on company time & the boss makes a dollar but we make a dime, so it’s okay to…. I assumed erroneously everyone hates their job.
Recently I realised that some/many (?) Stackers have no such aversion towards their jobs. I also learnt that the notion of investing with the aim to get passive income seems dirty to them. Work for Bitcoin seems to be the mantra here.
What’s your work routine like? Are you on the manager’s or maker’s schedule?? Do you subscribe to the conventional advice of tackling the most challenging n cognitively-demanding task first thing on your work day or are you like @Undisciplined who doesn’t mind getting the nitty gritty out of the way so that it doesn’t cloud his mental space (which made me immensely relieved because sometimes I’m like that)?
Does does this work word mean? My routine is log on to stacker news and post and comment all day. Is this work?
reply
Is this work?
It could be, if you were better at it.
reply
If I was better at it I probably wouldn't be enjoying it so much.
reply
You guys crack me up 🤣
reply
That does sound a lot like work.

I usually get my most important procrastination done first, that way I waste time on the vital stuff nice and early.
Then I move into the longer-term slacking off which takes me into mid-afternoon.
The pressure of actually getting some work done building, I then usually go for a swim, telling myself that once I've finished that, I'll get to the boring stuff.
Then, I usually get side-tracked by the YouTube algo, which takes me through to the end of the day.
It's a hard life, don't waste it on "work".
reply
That's very relatable.

Comment, comment and comment at stacker news.
Zap, zap and zap at Stackernews.
Doing nothing else these days. May be in two or three days I finalise where to set up mining farm.

Some days are a hard slog, ngl

My routine is basically to attend a lot of meetings, procrastinate as long as I can, and then feverishly get a bunch of work done just before it needs to be done.
reply
And now you can offload some work to AI, increasing the time you get to spend procrastinating, at least that’s what I do.
reply
I probably could and probably should, but I haven't really looked into it yet.
reply
Are you a passive or active participant usually?
reply
My meetings are seldom of any interest or importance, so I'm generally passive. On the rare occasions that they're relevant to me, I'm pretty active.
reply
Turn on the computer, look a at the list of things that needs to be done, do as many of those things as possible, update the list, turn off the computer.
reply
Do you just tackle anything that catches your fancy or do you buckle down on the task that will yield the most mileage even though it may be difficult and you just feel like procrastinating? Haha

Momentum is important, and you gain it (at least I do) by marking those lines as done. Sometimes you need to gain momentum before tackling big/boring ones, sometimes you don't (depends on the mood). The important thing is to never lose momentum.
reply
Your word momentum has stayed with me throughout this month. I tackle my everyday with greater gusto, I believe. Thanks, mate!

I'm retired now, but mostly felt like I was just trying to keep everything in the office calm and peaceful; deescalating situations. I think people deserve a safe place to work. It is where we spend so much of our time.

Work? AI can do everything that I did. I contemplate the landscape now. More sunsets than sunrises.

  • I wake up and usually go through my mailbox first and mark down any tasks that need to be done today
  • Then I check my asana board for status updates on any tasks or provide status updates
  • Then I load up YouTube or Poddies, check SN and nostr to see whats new so I can have something to listen to while I grind it out
  • I try to finish smaller tasks before I boot up slack and get bogged down by peoples nonsense and meetings
  • Then slog it out until 5 and mentally prepare myself to lift heavy or go play soccer
