I think they will soon blame climate change. An ancient fault line has been activated due to stress of melting glaciers. https://www.businessinsider.com/east-coast-earthquake-came-from-ancient-sleeping-fault-reactivated-2024-4
I didn't even know we still had glaciers around here.

I am not sure what you heard but that is a known active fault line system actually. Its called the Ramapo fault system (there are 4 different faults within this system). This quake though has been bigger than in the past as the USGS has logged 188 quakes at 2.5 or higher within 250 miles of NYC since 1957. I think esp. after Taiwan people are much more aware of them.

I was trying to be funny. I wasn't serious. The general theory is that ice age glaciers deformed the area where the plates collided, and when the glaciers melted the plates have been in the process of springing back from that deformity over the course of time.

Lol my bad! I guess since with my work I have had to explain to people that this is rare and a sign of things to come that I wanted to say that its not as crazy out there as one thinks! Earthquakes in the region are much more common than one would think!
