I’m wondering what businesses would benefit most from adopting Bitcoin. Yes yes, everyone, but who will come first?
For lightning, I think small: coffee shops, barbers/salons, bars/restaurants, small retail
For Bitcoin, I think big: real estate, vehicle sales, commercial/residental rent, travel/leisure
What do you think?
1,000 sats paid

Slot machine players would go crazy to see so many sats in their jackpot!

This.

Like slot machines and other games with micro transactions (like on mobile or online), having an uneven currency conversion helps confuse people estimation of their spendings.
Also, these types of games could potentially gain a faster adoption over other business types, as it can be "exploited" as a game specific currency to the masses, they could even profit from swapping locally or keeping custodial wallets for their customers.

Looks like you've been thinking it through, working on something? 🌝
reply
Not at all, I know people being ruined by those things, so I'd rather avoid them.
But, I've been curious about videogame development and how those online and gacha games manage to "brainwash" their users.
Not for profit, but to avoid following those shady patterns by mistake.

I think Farmers market businesses (a subset of small businesses) would benefit the absolute most! Many farmers are already skeptical of our food supply, and they like hard work and things they can see through themselves.
I think this is a unique audience that should be tapped into. I go to farmer's markets every week and offer to pay in bitcoin - and many are very personal and at least open to what you have to say.

Sex shops. When you're having an affair, you might want to hide purchases there from your bank / card bill from your wife.

And this.

Mining pools - if they enabled lightning withdraws.
reply
That benefits the miners who use pools, certainly. How does it benefit the operators?
I’m not saying it doesn’t benefit them, I’m just curious as to your argument.
reply
I think there are a lot of old smaller miners out there that would join the pool if the payouts could be done for a small amount.
Think space heater crowd.
reply

I could imagine a future where mining pools also run their own LSP with the mined coin, allowing for withdraws via LN.
reply
Most, if not all charities
reply
For LN I think any local business that manufacture some in house usable goods, any artistic expression like painting or craft, any in person service, and mining pools of course.

Any cashflow business can integrate a Bitcoin treasury. Sell tokens for meal/event passes/travel fares that can't be inflated away by keeping a percentage of the token purchase price in a bitcoin-hedged treasury.

There's a huge chicken and egg problem with small in-person txs. ie why would a business accept bitcoin if there aren't many customers looking to pay in it? I'd focus on businesses that already go to great lengths to protect customer privacy and accept a lot of cash. Maybe out-of-pocket medical clinics and hospitals? Casinos?

Spot on, basically all small businesses.
reply
Sounds about right.
Maybe in a few decades lightning might end up being used for more expensive products as bitcoin grows in purchasing power.
reply
Local bars and restaurants that builds or support a BTC community in the same area.
So it becomes the place to go for all the bitcoiners.
