SN is full of halving so let’s try something different. I came to this hilarious meme and wonder whether you guys play any instrument and how good or bad are you? I can start myself, I did some piano classes but still suck at it.

I played drums for a very short while years ago due to being in a band with some friends. Since then I make noises in the vague outline of a song on both the guitar and keyboard!
I'm not great at either instrument, but I can play basic songs and even improvise a little if my brain is in a creative mood.

I used to play clarinet in my highschool band. Worked my way from beginner to first clarinet through the 5 years that I was there, because I actually spent time practicing. I also picked up tenor sax as my second instrument for the band in my 3rd year because we were lacking tenor sax players. I stopped playing when I finished high school, but would pick up my clarinet from time to time and play for my kids.
I also learned to strum chords and sing songs on the guitar on my own. Although, I'm quite bad at playing the guitar.

So you are likely the first professional here who commented :)

Far from reaching professional level. I wouldn't even say I was pretty good at the clarinet, more like a barely minimum competent high school level player. But being in the band was fun. I remember performing in school music concerts each year; going to other schools to play in band meets; playing Christmas music in the school foyer while half the school surrounded the band and sang along; and most fun of all, traveling to different cities with the band to join and play in band meets / festivals.

I have been a shitty guitar player for around 40 years now.

But I guess you still enjoy playing after all those years, or?

Yes I do. It's relaxing and there's still a thrill in learning a new song. It's like magic.

I'm a pro whistler. I am musical bit I have never applied myself to any instruments. I want to be good at it now. I am so impatient.

You should try the harmonica

I okay a little harmonica in our plant medicine ceremonies sometimes. I don't know what I am doing but I have fun.

I'm not very talented at that 😅

Pro whistler 🤣 but I got you, I see it now on my kids, we would like them to play whatever they choose but they are so impatient, but we don’t want to push them too hard either.

My daughter is super talented and has taken piano her whole life. I love vicariously through her. I'm so proud.

I haven't played either in years but I used to play piano and guitar. Nowadays I mostly just focus on vocals.

Like professionally? Do you sing in a band or a choir?

Nah. More in like the car/shower... I've stepped on stage once for karaoke. But I don't do it professionally at all.
Although I did always think perhaps if I could get used to those stage nerves, maybe I could front man a band. But I haven't really pursued that

Guitar, piano, and a bit of drums.

I picked up the guitar and still strum a few chords now and then, but I wouldn't call myself a guitarist.

Nice. I like the guitar music and I’m planning to learn it when my kids eventually move out. Hope at least one of them can learn it too. Let’s see.

I've been learning the piano for the last year. It has woken up another part of my brain I've rarely or never used before. I used the Simply Piano app to learn. I've tried learning through sheet music, but it was too frustrating.

I can give the app a try, too! Thanks for the suggestion.

One of my favorite aspects of the app, is that it may have 3-7 different versions of the same song that you can play at different difficulty levels.

I’ve played guitar and keys for about 40 years. I do a lot of sampling and Ableton live-looping. Dabble in brass.

I played the alto sax when l was younger.
Now that l am starting to have a bit more time, l want to get a saprano saxophone.
I think they sound beautiful, and l believe it is the same keys as the also sax.

I come from a very musical family. My dad is awesome at the guitar and singing! He has always in a band, and my sisters are very talented as well. I grew up playing the drums, singing as well as the keyboard/piano.
