I've seen someone wear a hat with the bitcoin logo before, and a shirt. When I saw it, I cringed a little bit for some reason. To me, it feels like wearing a gold chain in the shape of $.
Do you think wearing the Bitcoin logo on clothing and hats helps spread adoption? Or do you think it is asking to get mugged, cringe, etc?
I used to but then I stopped. Now I wear more subtle things for lower op sec like a fold card t-shirt or the stuff slush pool puts out. Only purists will know I’m a low key bitcoiner
reply
No, I'm not looking to get mugged.

Unfortunately freedom and privacy-minded people tend to dislike public displays. But it is a real roadblock we have to overcome. Seeing things in public- hats, bumper stickers, etc. "primes" people to look into it later (even if 10 years later). This is a basic, effective, and universal marketing strategy. Meaning if we don't use it, someone else will. Perhaps there is a way to create a Tor-like onion routing system for advertisements. Guide people down the rabbit hole, but by the time they figure out you are a bitcoiner, you are long gone?

I prefer to have Bitcoin books, collectibles and artwork inside my house. That way, people I trust can see them, get curious and ask questions :)

I've a t shirt with the first genesis block message on it, almost no one recognized it but I had encountered someone who smiled and nodded at me

I have a hoodie with that and sometimes wear it. It is totally stealth mode.

I have the "KYC IS THE ILLICIT ACTIVITY" from Bisq folks, but wear it only for special occasions :)

I wear a honey badger cap but not Bitcoin labeling or anything that suggests what it really is. Occasionally people will comment on how much they like honey badgers but nobody yet has made the real connection. We are so early.

Me personally I like wearing bitcoin company shirts(STACKER HAT is probably the best piece of swag I own) funny at first I thought people were joking when they said go to Miami with 3 shirts left with a bunch haha cool thing about it too is usually no one will have the same shirt in my home town and even if the shirts do have bitcoin the word or logo fuck it u wanna talk cringe I've seen shitcoin shirts in public....gross..

I have that black tee that looks like the cover of Metallica's "Ride the Lightning". Also have the smiley face Satoshi tee that looks like the cover of that Nirvana album. Bought them from Lightning.store because I think they look cool. I'm not concerned with being mugged. Right now, I think the term "Satoshi" is too obscure, but I think my tee will make some people curious.
reply
Agreed. Lightning.store has some great merch that is subtle enough to wear

I have a ”I told u so” T-shirt in the closet. Never worn. I’ll consider wearing it when we reach $100k.

Like many others here, I've got a bitcoin t-shirt, but I rarely use it in public anymore. I did wear it on a meetup once, but don't recall ever using it again when going out. You gotta be careful.
reply
I do not for opsec reasons, but I would absolutely rock a Sparrow hat like Odell has.
reply
Yes all the time. All of them paid with Lightning. I find it very unlikely that I'd get mugged for it, almost nobody notices, and nobody ever says anything. I don't think it helps spread adoption, I wear it because it's a small part of my identity.
reply
Almost never. Poor opsec and a security risk.
reply
No, it convinces nobody.
reply
I wouldn't wear it in public so no need
reply
Yeap t-shirts
reply
I'm not, but I'm thinking about a shirt with the following words printed on it: "Remember my face because in ten years you and your friend can become filthy rich by kidnapping and using a power drill on me and my family."
reply
No.
Never public nothing related to Bitcoin.
reply
only from LN store its abstract & unique so prying eyes would really have to be prying
reply
I dont, but I would like to buy some cheap shirts lol
reply
The amazing Guns ’n Bitcoin cammo hat!!
No, mostly because I feel it gets too cringe when I don't hang around a lot of bitcoiners IRL and partly because of opsec ($5 wrench attack)

If I’m staying home all day (I WFH) or if I’m traveling, I will. I don’t wear bitcoin clothing around my town. I don’t need people where near I live to know that I like a pseudonymous bearer instrument so much that I wear branded clothing. Seems like a good way to paint a target on my house.
reply
I don't really wear it because it's bad opsec but I do own some bitcoin gear. I think most Bitcoiners do at this point.
