I'm thinking about debates on SN as a way to bring people here. I was first wondering if it'd be a new post type, but that seems like overcomplicating it.
I'm not sold on "sorting by ___ for a winner", or having to choose who gets a bounty. I think people zapping the answer they like better would be rewarding enough. Maybe something to encourage larger and more zaps to have a better sample size?
Has anyone thought about how to structure one here?
I don't want to see SN slowly became a reddit. I think SN is more than reddit. Fuck reddit, they created a bed behavior for users.
I already identified some SN accounts doing exactly like on reddit, with sockpuppets accounts, pushing votes for other sockpuppets, zapping more to give the impression that some comments or posts are "well seen" etc.
Also the feature that allow anon account to post and zap I find it dangerous for SN.
I always said: separate votes from sats, to be visible. Votes / zaps are only once per user, sats could be multiple and doesn't /shouldn't count for ranking.
That's why I always said that all SN games are rigged... but many people look away and don't want to listen to my warnings (maybe because they are part of it?).

Agreed, and it will only get worse from here on. People will always optimize the fun out of the games, even more so when there's money. At least on SN we have the ability to 'make them pay', just have to figure out the right incentive structure.

I like the idea. My first pass at structure would be
  • The moderator creates the post and introduces the topic and debaters.
  • Each debater leaves an opening statement in the comments.
  • They each get to reply to the other's statement.
  • They each pose a question to the other in new comments.
  • The moderator poses a question to each debater in new comments.
  • The debaters leave a closing statement in new comments.

Seems like a great start. Here is where maybe a new post type could come into play. While posting, the moderator tags a limited amount of people that can reply directly to the post, while everyone else can reply, just only within those replies.
This way, the discussion questions never get buried, and the post kinda self organizes.

Yeah, you'd almost want all of the stuff I described to happen first and then the result turns into an AMA with preloaded comments for people to respond to.

It’s difficult because if the bounty is large enough people may have alts zap their own content.

Yeah, that's why I don't think a bounty makes sense. Of course, people can run one however they want.
