Here's the thing, SN feels almost too Maxi for my taste and, while I enjoy the read and being almost free of stupid shilling and scams, I feel a little bit uncomfortable with the vibe.
Don't get me wrong, I just want to understand why it is like this. Many of us know what Bitcoin was made for, it's specific role in world's economy, and also what Bitcoin is not. We can't solve everything with Bitcoin, we can't build anything on it either. And some other blockchains have really solid goals that wouldn't compete with BTC but coexist. One is money, the other is..whatever else.
So, in an effort of bringing the discussion but not make it too long with my words, I welcome all of your comments. Give me you point of view and help me understand what I'm missing.
And, of course, because we have the tool, we gotta use it. Let's fill a poll about the sentiment here in SN. Cheers.
You are new... Only after you pass 2 halvings you will understand.
It only took me 1 halving.
you are smart :)
It would be easier if you explained. Don't you think? I've been lurking around crypto for 2 years now, always trying to learn more and more. And the best part was always the interaction with other users.
Most people will take interest in crypto by first learning about Bitcoin, but then will conclude it needs to be improved upon. This is what drives the average person into alts, and given alts' inexplicable tradability you're lead to believe they have some intrinsic value. This either due to their proof-of-work or due to their abilities beyond what bitcoin appears to be capable of.
The toxic bitcoin maximalist will presume anyone that 'indulges in shitcoining' is here to evangelize their favorite coin, and the maxi will mount a counterattack. This counterattack by a Bitcoin ambassador will appear to be uncharitable, and therefore accumulates against Bitcoin's social capital and public image.
What the maxi is actually doing is reacting to their former selves.
If you could go back in time to warn yourself against pursuing a woman that took you for a ride and set you back many years, but you couldn't convince your former self to change your decisions, to your former self you'd probably appear to be quite the asshole. This is what maxis are doing to the shitcoin evangelists, we've all been exactly where you are and its a combination of being suspicious and self-loathing for having been deceived and having defended loathsome thieves in the same manner.
Learn more. In 2 years you barely know how to buy some sats. That's not the point of being a bitcoiner (if you want to be one). Start reading and not "interacting" with dudes on internet. This is how you learn stuff about bitcoin. https://bitcoin.page https://lightning.how
When you finish reading those 2 pages, you will have the answer. The real answer.
Not a maxi but Bitcoin can solve a lot of problems. Those that Bitcoin doesnt solve, may not need a blockchain to be solved at all, OR not any alt coin in existence now.
Bitcoin is the safest and has the biggest target market in the space
"that wouldn't compete with BTC but coexist. One is money, the other is" a premined unregistered security that can be shut down by the government (or just like...Amazon) and would never be able to handle the same FUD Bitcoin has had to deal with.
I am Bitcoin only. Bust just like many people on Reddit I consider the word "maxi" burned earth.
there can be only 1, because:
Of course I've heard on lightning. But you can't make complex smart contracts with it, can you?
oh well, depends on what you mean, there's for sure certain limitations, but the higher level/layer we go on bitcoin, the more is possible, and it's a feature bitcoin and lightning are per se smart contracts check out bolt.fun or if you are not satisfied come up with another solution
Maybe this will help: #44100
I don't consider myself a maxi
But I do think most crypto projects are get rich quick schemes for their founders
That being said, I do support the overall "web3" effort of building a decentralized cloud computer
I’m technically a maximalist, but not in personality. I recognize “bitcoin fixes that” as a meme, but I do think there’s a lot about it that fundamentally changes things for the better. But perhaps it makes other things worse. Overall I think the community could use more nuance, but stacker seems to have more of that than anywhere else I’ve found. If you see something that looks too ideological, I’d encourage you to challenge it. I, for one, enjoy seeing the challenge and want to learn from it.
I’m also open to other projects having legitimate uses, I just haven’t been convinced by anything yet.
