Yesterday was a pretty hard day for my family as we had to say goodbye to our sweet baby boy Mardi (his full name was Mardi Gas because he was the life of the party). We got Mardi not long after he had gotten Rusty, my dog who got me through my neurosurgeries and had made into a diamond, because Rusty was scared of… grass…
Mardi was such a sweet and loving boy who blessed us with roughly 13 years of happiness! Thankfully for my parents and brother we had known the last couple of months that we were getting closer to the end so everyone got to see him before he passed. The vet yesterday was surprised and I think touched by how my mom had my brother, who lives in Louisiana, and I, who lives ok in DC, on the phone so we could all be there with him. It's going to be super hard the next time I go home since for the first time in over 13 years, my parent's house and its hardwood floors will be quiet. Here are some of Mardi’s best photos as well as the treats he got yesterday.
He is so loved and missed. Thank you sweet boy for all the kisses and the goofy way you would sometimes sleep! I know you're with your brother now and don't ever have to hear a storm again!
I'm so sorry. Our dog passed several months ago. It's really hard.

Yeah its rough esp since both he and Rusty were back in Texas and I was in DC when the time came so I wasn't able to be there in person. I talked to him lots in the hours leading up to the vet appointment so I know he knew I was there which helps put my mind at rest.

I'm truly saddened by your loss. I know what it means I have lived my whole life with dogs. They're part of our lives and always bring us so much joy. Have a safe journey Mardi Gas.💕

110% right luckily for me, I will actually be dog-sitting Thursday night through Sunday afternoon so I will be able to get tons of kisses and cuddles. I know Mardi was so so happy to see his brother and his brother was so so happy to see him as well! It gives me peace of mind knowing that they are reunited and that Mardi will also meet our other set of goldens we had before Rusty and him.

Sorry man. Beautiful dog. Wonderful that you go to spend so many years with him in your life.

We have had 4 goldens so far and if you were going to ask anyone in our family which golden would live the longest Mardi would have been number 4 lol. Poor guy was scared of thunder, fireworks, and even dropping someone on the hardwood/tile floors would send him into a tizzy! We all thought he was going to give himself a heart attack with how stressed he would get with life but ya know he honestly showed all of us!

So sorry for your loss. I think most of us here know how hard it is. It's obvious that boy was loved well, for which you all should be happy and proud.

I have to admit when I first joined SN I would not have expected to see such an active dog and cat loving community as I have! It is remarkable and I love it!

Feel sorry for you! I had taken a couple before 3 years and the male could only survive 1.5 years. The female we have gave birth to 9 cute puppies just 2 days ago.
I remember how my mother wept for our 'Mouser' anytime someone took the name. I believe that dogs are the ones that complete a family...

Couldn't agree more! My dad is mostly retired but still works from home to keep himself busy and I know he is going to be the hardest hit of us since the house will now be empty during the day for the most part :(
I also believe that this is the fourth golden we have had and that the four of them have already gotten together and have found the perfect dog to introduce to my dad to fill the hole not only in his heart but in his life... I don't know when he and the dog will cross paths but I know it will be sooner than my parents or I expect. Our pups don't want us to hurt or be sad and I know they have already found our next buddy

sorry for your loss, it's truly like losing family.

Exactly... it hurts but I know he is running wild with his brother now and I am sure causing all sorts of chaos!

So sorry... Dogs are the best.. he looks like the goodest boy... 😢

He really was! He was a rescue so you know he had some quirks but overall a very very good boy! Made it from the streets of Houston to the cushy life of suburbia!
