It's exciting to see how much this list has grown in just 18 months. But some merchants provide a better experience than others, so to make life easier for visitors and those with limited time, we started with a short list of recommended Bitcoin merchants

One of my Indian friends living there often tells me that Vancouver is the best place for Bitcoin. The community is evolving at a good speed. There are bigger players who are promoting it. These are all good signs!

A Vancouver Brewery is selling 'Bitcoin Beer Cans' is something that I was impressed. Whenever I reach there the first thing I'll do is buy a 'HODL' Beer.

Bitcoin is getting adopted.
I wonder if it has anything to do with how the chinese are trying to get their own money out?

There are indeed a few persian and chinese money changers in the city that will cheaply swap Bitcoin to cash. I do suspect most of their volume is in tether though

I see.
They are using tether to get their ill gotten gains out of china?

Hard to tell. Maybe they're sending money back to their families, too?

I thought it was supposed to be hard to move money out of china.
Not impossible, but strongly discouraged.

And sometimes it's hard to move money into China. There are many ways though, Tether is relatively popular but so are insurance schemes and shadow banks

What are insurance schemes and shadow banks?
I always heard it is easy to move money into china, just hard to move it out.

I clicked thru on a few of them. None of the ones I randomly selected showed anything on their websites about bitcoin.
Please recommend to each and every one that they should proudly display "We accept bitcoin as a payment option" on each page of their website. Doing so would likely earn them a news article, aka free advertising, and draw in additional business.

I do admit most of their websites are out of date and poorly maintained. I'm glad whenever I see a sticker at the door

one of the down side is the fact Bitcoin's price can be highly volatile. The value of Bitcoin can fluctuate significantly within a short period, potentially leading to losses for merchants if the value decreases after a transaction is completed

In that case merchants should use exchange solutions that convert the received bitcoin automatically to their fiat bank account

Yeah this seems sensible, but in our experience in Vancouver, merchants want sats, not dollars
