Obviously this is a bit out of date (since it refers to Twitter), but I've always found this a good set of guidelines when something huge happens.

What's the deal with #4?

reply

Both the Sandy Hook and Washington Navy Yard shootings had early false reports of second shooters. It's not that they don't ever exist -- see Colombine -- but they get overreported early on.

Oh, in modern English, X is pronounced "Twitter".

The video of him pumping his fists after nearly getting shot in the head is going to be iconic. Might even be enough to get him elected.

His opponent is a frightened coward who refused to let Ukraine strike back at Russian air fields after Russia blew up a childrens' hospital (I personally know someone who was at that hospital when it got hit), and two other healthcare facilities in one day.

reply

You know that Trump won’t GAF about Ukraine getting wrecked?

reply

Biden doesn't either, so not clear how much worse Trump actually is.

After the hospital hit the UK offered Ukraine the ability to hit those airfields with long range storm shadow missiles, and Poland offered to shoot down missiles, and the US immediately made both countries walk back their promises. Biden's administration does not want Ukraine to win.

reply

Well, that’s your typical democrat: spend money without an actual plan so people think you do something at press conferences.

reply

It's not even a matter of money spent. Ukraine has all the weapons it needs to stop these attacks, and it wouldn't cost that much to do so. The money has been spent. The Biden administration is refusing to give Ukraine permission to actually hit Russia, be it with US weapons, or anyone else's. They're even furious at Ukraine for using their own, indigenously developed, weapons to strike Russia.

reply

Sounded like .22 lr (squirrel round) multiple shots at stationary target, if the shooter was serious he really needs some range time...lol
I think he got just nicked on the side of his head, someone behind him that's another story, we shall see soon..
Boy, we won't hear the end of it now...
I predict Trumps wins in a landslide...

reply

Shooter was approximately 125m away from Trump: https://x.com/OAlexanderDK/status/1812269647908971005

Not an impossible shot. But not an easy one either.

reply

Trained marksman would take a center of mass shot at this range to avoid the possibility of missing. Headshots are for Hollywood movies or in situations where a center of mass shot isn't possible. You simply have more mass to hit.

This likely wasn't a trained marksman.

reply

Your assuming he had a clear shot to center of mass. For starters, likely that Trump was wearing a good vest. And I'm sure they put bulletproof plates in his podium.

reply

That’s a nothing shot for a rifleman…beyond easy if you have any competence. My kids shoot prarie dogs at 400m and rarely miss unless it’s windy. This is probably some rando the CIA handed a rifle to.

reply

We have both people in this thread saying this is a tricky distance and people saying this is an easy distance.

Considering that everyone on the internet claims to have a 10 inch penis I suspect which side is right here

reply

Well, considering this dude was using a rifle, and IHMSA (handgun silhouette) matches routinely shoot to 200m, (and there are even 500m matches, handgun)…a very good handgun shooter could have made this shot…

With a rifle, I could teach anyone with an pulse to make a 120m shot in an hour on the range.

reply

Moving target is difficult

reply

Did the kid aim for the head because Trump was wearing a vest?

reply

He may not have had a clear line to sight to anything but Trump's head too.

reply

It's much harder to pull this off when you know this is the last thing you will probably ever do. I'm sure the shooter knew he was likely to die in the process.

reply

I'm sure your kids have a lot of practice and are in fact pretty good marksmen.

Point is a rando couldn't just pick up a gun without prior experience and make that shot. And of course, whoever did it missed...

reply

How did he manage to get up there with Secret service right there?

reply

Why wasn't this the roof where the secret service or Trumps bodyguards where stationed to protect Trump from a shooter?

reply

It was outside of the boundary wasn't it? Still should have been an obvious place to secure.

reply

standard procedure to secure high places even 1 mile away

reply

Its pretty early and more info might come to light, but I wouldn't want to jump to any "inside job" theories yet. Maybe they just did a bad job or it could just be complacency after week in week out rallies. Also, the shooter must have known very well that this would be a suicide mission. He would have known that he would be shot.

reply

Shooter was only 400 feet away. Not much bigger than a football field.

reply

Touche, that explains the bad shot, it seems Secret Service guys are better shooters...

reply

https://m.stacker.news/39595
Seems like they had to shoot through the bleachers as well.

reply

The New York Post reports that Trump's shooter was a Chinese man.

"The shooter, identified as a Chinese man, was in a sniper position located hundreds of yards from Trump's podium in Butler, Pennsylvania, as he spoke to a campaign audience, the sources said."

It all feels very "wag the dog".

reply

I don't know man, the guy was an inch from being dead or very seriously injured, the guy behind him is dead. To plan a "play" like that would be a little far fetched in my book. This is ain't Smollett's performance, just saying....

reply

Yeah, you're right. The people in power would never kill someone. So far fetched.

Shooter would be paid to miss or shoot someone else most likely a trained sniper

The first episode of Monk has this scenario

Way the dog is the new pathetic attempt at changing the narrative

reply

If by "new" you mean a movie from 1997 which describes a very real phenomenon that was already endemic to the system by the time the movie was made, then yeah, super "new"...

reply

I'm saying that the shooting was not staged

reply

Didn't say it was. And "wag the dog" is about creating a narrative, not only for the purpose of distraction.

It's for control. The tail controls the dog. Distracting from political scandal is only one possible use.

reply

To “wag the dog” means to distract attention away from a political scandal, often through military action

reply

He had an AR-15 on him when his body was recovered.

reply

That makes no sense. Did he think he could fight himself out of the situation and disappear afterwards? And then continue to live his life unidentified?

reply

No he probably knew it was a suicide mission. He just was a lousy shot.

reply

Why carry an AR-15 then?

reply
reply

It's not the weapon used by a sniper. There must be a reason he thought he would need an automatic weapon in addition

reply

AR-15 is semi automatic not automatic

NYTimes is saying noises came from his left:

Mr. Trump ducked quickly after the noises began, with the sound coming from the bleachers to the left of where he was standing

But it looks like he was shot in the right ear.

reply

He had blood on his right ear after clutching it before ducking, but he might've also injured it in the secret service pile on I guess.

reply

Maybe the face wounds were from the pile on.

As a /~Photography nerd... sometimes the meaning of life if having photos of historic moments.

Like the people that have a photo of when they bought the iphone 1. Knowing it was a historic moment that needed to be photographed is important. Someone in the crowd was thinking fast, ignored all shock, didn't continue to duck and thought about a historic photo first.

With the level of rhetoric surrounding Trump, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

I'm growing increasingly pessimistic that the two cultural sides in the U.S. can make peace. While I don't necessarily assign a high probability to civil war or societal collapse of any kind, I do think it's wise to start making exit plans.

reply

I don't think societal collapse, but we are moving towards a national divorce. I just hope it's peaceful.

reply

Our country is falling apart. "Democracy" is in grave danger, and moreover our country. The deep state does not want Trump to win.

reply

I think that this attack that candidate Trump suffered is simply advertising... marketing looking for a way to make him a martyr and thus manage to boost the numbers towards his candidacy and achieve the presidency... It is so much so that I think that even what he did At the time the shot was fired I was prepared... because it was precisely a graphic that referred to immigrants... an issue on which Trump has little support!! And he seeks to rescue those votes also from that large community in the United States that is growing more and more..

reply

What a lousy shot, but I believe the secret service guy played a part in saving Trump.

reply

most people are lousy shot except on television and movies

Trained snipers are the exception in real life

Secret service men are normally trained sharpshooters

reply

It is somewhat surprising how politicians now use other non-democratic means to measure themselves against their opponent.

reply

What are the odds? This picture showing a sharpshooter with his feet facing forward, just like in today's Trump assassination attempt, was sent out yesterday in a tweet.

Why did the bullet miss? Why did the bullet miss?

Because:

Nobody knows where to shoot him; he's clearly got no heart, his head obviously has no brain in it (and even if its in his arse its too fat to get a bullet through), and his dick (like his baby hands) is obviously too small to hit.
