After I became a father, I got back into the habit of drinking probiotic drinks like Vitagen (from Malaysia) and Yakult (from Japan). Apparently, these drinks ensure that there is enough good bacteria at all times. Having good bacteria is pivotal to enjoying good health, because a lack of it has been found to be correlated to obesity and decreased immunity.
Benefits of good bacteria
  1. Breaks down plant starches and other foods that your body has trouble digesting. Hence, your body can take full advantage of the nutrients found in that food
  2. Make Vitamin K - which your body cannot make, which is helpful in normal blood clotting.
  3. Help the body break down drugs and carcinogens, which can cause cancer. Get rid of damaged cells in the digestive tract that could lead to cancer.
  4. Reduce your risk of developing the common cold and respiratory illnesses
Additionally, these five foods are good for gut health: miso, yoghurt, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kefir.
Are my Stackers in the habit of drinking probiotic drinks too? Is it even a thing in your country?
Good on you to take care of your gut. The direct link between brain and gut is being considered more and more critical in explaining many autoimmune diseases and other neurological problems. The gut would be like a second brain in some sense.

I didn’t know this!
I only know that good oral health is important because if we have too many missing teeth, somehow this increases our chances for dementia.

I am a huge fan. I used to buy kimchi, but now, I have switched to home-made fermented ginger. It's very easy to make. I use it to make lemonades (the fermented ginger, with fresh lemon juice, sparkling water, sweetener, and ice), or add it to home-made juices and let it ferment for a couple of days before drinking. Give it a try!

Sounds like a home project!

Here's mine. I will replenish it later today with more ginger, water, and sugar, then let it ferment for a few days...

I used to pound them. I do still eat a good amount of yogurt. I can tell it helps keep my gut in check.

How do you get food supplies out in the desert?
reply
Eventually we will grow much of our own food after we get rain water collection set up. For now we drive to a small town that is 40 minutes away for supplies as needed.

Self-sustenance is empowering. All the best!

I eat yogurt every morning. That's enough for me.

Do you switch your yogurt or stick to the same flavour every day? Just curious
reply
Yes, I have Kefir and Kombucha to try and improve my gut health! I try for at least one of these drinks a day. Gut health is super important everyone

A double-pronged wellness approach!

I'm a kombucha fan and I make a point of eating pickled foods.
A healthy gut biome also produces B-12 and biotin. It's almost impossible to consume an optimal amount of B-12 directly from your food.

Better to take probiotics than to take supplements!

I told my friend today that I have been drinking kombucha and probiotics to alleviate my stomach pain.
Her response was: so L.A. lol

Also a huge fan of any kind of probiotic products, like the ones you mentioned. Would be amazing if there was a shop selling these products, that accepted bitcoin.
