What some Bitcoiners believe:
  • Bitcoin will grow and take over the world
and also
  • None of the existing power structure like Wall-Street or Politicians will interact with Bitcoin at all
You can't have both things true at the same time. Yes, you and I may not love politicians, but this is the natural growth process of bitcoin. Relax Donald Trump can't alter the issuance schedule nor stop the next block from being mined.

This is the way sir. 100%
Bitcoin is for enemies is a good way to think about it.
The ETF's were gonna happen if bitcoin doesn't fail. It won't destroy it, if it did we were screwed from the start. But any asset in this current world system is gonna be traded on the existing systems.
We don't just move to the absolute, but we can live our conviction. Just know, you are always gonna be in the minority. Most people are more pragmatic and more like followers. The more people that adopt bitcoin the more in the minority anti-state bitcoiners will be. We will not win ideologically.
I think many bitcoiners don't get humans. If you lean libertarian or anarchist you are a massive minority. Not just of position but of mind. The way you think is not common. There are many of us, but we are in a massive minority and we always will be. You will not convince your friends and family. The only ones that can be convinced are already on the path. They will find their way.
So, bitcoin will win or lose based on incentives. I never believed the world would turn sovereign. Most people just want to be safe and have food to eat. They don't even care about freedom. But we that do can still use bitcoin and focus on being the lighthouse for those that have the eyes to see a better way.
The rest will just follow as the incentives lead them to bitcoin and a more free world.

Thanks for the writing.
You will not convince your friends and family.
Please lend me a hand to help me understand: What is the use of friends and family if they fundamentally dislike me? What do they bring to the table? How do they improve my life? Why should I spend time with them? How do they lift me up instead of dragging me down?
Other than that, I wish someone had explained this sort of things to me when it mattered.

I'm no therapist. I don't agree with most of my family and many of my friends. It can be that your family is just terrible and toxic. It also could go both ways.
Someone that dislikes you fundamentally is not a friend. Family isn't a choice.
Some people are hard to get along with. I don't know. Don't think I can help you with your question but if I if I had friends that didn't like me I would find new friends. If my family could not stand me I wouldn't invest time with them. The real question to these questions it why is this the situation?
reply
One other thought based on my experience. I find far more value in seeking to understand those around me than trying to correct them. People usually do not appreciate unsolicited advice/opinions. Most of us have heard plenty of family and friends tell us, you should do this or that. When you don't ask for that how does it make you feel?
Unless people are open to hearing your opinion on something it usually isn't worth getting into an argument about something. Most people haven't really thought about politics on a deep level. I would say most bitcoiners haven't either. There are a lot of bitcoin libertarians that really don't get political thought. That's fine. There are other things in life that are much more fun and rewarding.
My default is to find kind people that care about someone other than themselves. I usually do not care how they vote. If they like bitcoin. I don't try to "convert" them. If a door opens I will drop a comment about something I think they haven't heard. If they respond in a way that signals interest I engage. If not, I just let it go.
Often people just aren't as curious as I am about much of anything. That doesn't make me better than them. We fall into this trap of comparing ourselves to each other. This is where my faith and the teaching I received in the church helps. We are taught to NOT compare ourselves to each other. I think it is more helpful to compare myself to Jesus and my past self. Am I becoming more like Jesus? If I am it is probably only marginally. But am I improving myself? If I don't know what to work on I'm probably in deep trouble. Need to do some introspection and prayer. Areas to improve will pop up quick. This is where a therapist or clergy can help.
I know we live in an age of science and we think we prove everything using the method (never mind that the science comes out of the church) but there is massive value in communities of faith. A church. A small group of people that care about you and that you care about. I think people are looking for that. We need community. Real connection. In person.
We are all flawed and screw up. We will never find people that are perfect or even close. I am grateful for a community that cares about me despite my crazy ideas and overly analytical nature.
I'll leave you with this book recommendation.
The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion: Haidt, Jonathan. It is a great tool to help you understand the differences across cultures and political/religious ideologies. We all have value and need each other. A world full of only one kind of people would be terrible.

Your question sounded like asking for the type of advice one would get from a therapist that's why.
I am glad to hear you have been healing. I don't know you or your situation but be careful about writing people off because they think Bitcoin is nuts and you are crazy for being so into it. People don't get it. Those that do are not average. We aren't better because of it. We are different. I would never write someone off that just thinks I am nuts about bitcoin. As I get older I care less and less what people think. That said, I rarely get angry at people for not seeing things my way. That's no way to live.
God bless you. I hope you continue to heal and find peace.

I don't complain about the existing power structure interacting with bitcoin.
I do complain about "bitcoiners" giving them attention, licking their boots and begging them to "accept" us instead of ignoring them.

You can ignore them but you cannot ignore the consequences of ignoring them.
reply
Technically speaking, there's zero consequences because, as far as we know, neither Donald nor those politicians make PRs at the Core, mine sats or use sats as we do.
Politically speaking, there are consequences of ignore those people. They make laws for many people and still, US has the standard currency of today.
But since they can't alter anything in the blokchain and the US internal policies is currently a farandula-style show, I'm choosing giving a f***

I'm still pretty skeptical about being through the "and then they fight you" phase. Its just politics right? I think its been written about many years ago, maybe it was VJ Boyapati or Parker Lewis. Governments risk losing their voter base if Bitcoin reaches critical mass.
I think its coming a little too fast and we might not be ready. But here they come!

The Bitcoin conference is better thought of as a festival than a serious conference.

don't be irritated by something like this. bitcoin is also a way to focus on yourself. i don't register anything like this at all

This is a very interesting read. Especially the part about trump, I believe it to be all true. Some bitcoiners have lost their way. Another interesting bit was about Saylor, and how his ultimate purpose is being derailed.

Those ticket prices 😵

I can never understand this critics, what's the problem with bureaucrats posing as bitcoin supporters? they are doing exactly what we want them to do: let them drink the poison!

The custody will be the battle methinks, some people will understand it and use it, some will not. I would say, "there is no such thing as bad publicity" at least it will be known. What ones does about it is another story....
reply
Okay, I'm not gonna read it because this time my favourite @k00b and @car are going to steal it for us an for Bitcoin.
reply
Surprising! The tickets prices are really very high!!
reply
The Bitcoin conference is not for the poor I think!
reply
I don't see anything negative with the conference. When you mentioned about ticket prices, you should've compared them with the other events like a music concert which hardly runs for a few hours. I've come to know that a Swift concert many cost you $1500 for 1 to 2 hours only. This conference as it's running for days and including so much, and also do not get as much crowd as a concert does. The prices for tickets are not that high.
reply
Why? Are they doing it for Bitcoin or for themselves?
reply
It's ok if Bitcoiners accept current Bitcoin doesn't have the same cypherpunk roots of Satoshi Bitcoin and nothing wrong you root for Blackrock ETF
