I prefer the standings that way. It’s confusing this way.
Nothing's confusing for me. Whoever wins more Gold is placed higher.

Obviously the goal is gold but they give out 3 medals per event. Would you argue a country that had one gold medal and no other medals had a better Olympics than a country that had no golds but 5 silver and 5 bronze?

I don't agree it but it's not confusing. They should in fact change it and measure the table with a total number of medal tally.

Fair. It’s interesting because in the example I gave I would say the country with 10 medals had a better Olympics than the one with one but on the flip side if a country had 9 gold medals and no other medals and another country had 2 golds, 4 silver and 4 bronze. 9 golds is better. So that’s an argument for sorting it by gold.

Obviously, a gold is like 10 times more valuable than a silver so, I think it's okay to gove Gold an edge over silver and bronze.

I love Gold 🥇 but India haven't got any till now is really terrible!
