You're just talking about permanent edits, though. I'm not sure if there would be more or less utility in the wiki post type.
I can imagine lots of topics where it might be interesting to open the post to the community for editing. One that came to mind was our attempting to piece together the Trump assassination attempt information. ~conspiracies could pin a wiki where we can add elements to the timeline as new information comes out.
This sounds like an excellent idea, particularly in relation to what I've talked about in the bitcoin beginners territory. I really like your idea of variable fees for edits and revenue sharing, although it seems like it would be incredibly difficult to determine the appropriate structure. Obviously the utility would vary from territory to territory, but I think the site as a whole would benefit. I think @ek had some good ideas, but it seems so long ago now that I can't remember the details. It was one more thing that took a back seat to the wallet madness.

Hopefully, @ek remembered his ideas.
I'm starting to think more about what else SN can be and do. It's amazing at being a reddit style forum, but I think there's a lot of potential to layer more into it.

Would the post be considered new anytime it got edited?

I'm not sure about "new". I like the idea of it going to the top of recent after being edited, though.
Something I've talked to k00b about a bit is how to reset the early zapping clock, so that there's always an incentive (other than human decency) to zap posts that you like.

Yeah that’s kind of what I was getting at with “new”. Does it get more weighting in the rewards algo and how is that balanced if it is a post as you describe like the Trump assassination attempt that is getting edited repeatedly to add new info.

The idea I pitched k00b for this is that after a post drops out of top status, the next person who zaps it resets the early clock. If it doesn't make it back to top status that day, then it would start over with the next person to zap it.
A post like the Trump assassination attempt would probably remain a top post for a few days and then each big revelation might get it back into top status.

I like the clock restart idea.
