I'm curious to hear what you think about Stackers self zapping their own post here. Do you think it's okay to do so? Why do you think they do it?

It's not like it's hurting anyone, as there's a sybil-fee deducted that goes toward the pool, and self-zapping from low-value accounts also have less "weight" compared to active accounts.
reply
In Digital Marketing that is a strategy called social proof, which is used to show to customers that your product is well received by the general public.
Selfzapping could create an artificial social proof that your post is relevant. "That many zaps? The community clearly thinks this is good."
Social proof works. You are more likely to zap a popular post - a.k.a. a post that was zapped a lot - even after knowing what social proof is.

We’re considering increasing the Sybil fee to 20%.
I’d like to also make boost easier and competitive incentives-wise with self-zapping.

There's nothing you can do about multiple accounts. You can even do some IP-based control, but that's easily circumvented. As for stackers zapping their own accounts, I don't see much of a problem, more sats go to the rewards.
reply
I can think of 2 very obvious instances where a person is clearly arguing their own position all the time with multiple accounts.
One person is always online at the same time, magically appearing the same posts, and the most obvious always having the same lingo, wording, framework. It kind of ruins a lot of posts with quantitative posting that would have been interesting discussions otherwise

Do you know what problem this clown has?
reply
He thinks that you and I are the same person who created 2 accounts

look, I've really kept it together with your behavior and stayed polite you little ethereum clown. Everyone here has realized by now that you're stupid, but what problem do you have with me? Not that I'm really interested, but your appearance here is indeed very mysterious

The projection of talking with (((yourself))) and your two accounts

I think I know who you're talking about.

I only have one account

Which 2 instances?

Moron, I don't have multiple accounts

It is tried a lot here by new stackers. @k00b has done a lot to disincentivize it. There was a real dramatic incident a year or so ago where a new stacker zapped himself a million sats. It was funny. Recently, a guy who I won't call out since he's still around did it on a very well crafted ai post. It worked. People thought he had legitimately garnered 100k sats and everyone kept zapping.
reply
What about one stacker getting zapped 1 M sats on his Bio? #29926
reply
There you go! Another example.
reply
And this one? #59734 No, nothing, it's a shit of a post. But 1.5 million! Holy crap!
reply
It is not unusual
reply
Oh yes, it's not unusual, right. But is it beneficial for the platform or not? I think it is because we get 10% in the rewards pool. Amazing I right?
reply
Yep. @k00b has the incentives/disincentives worked out
reply
LOL we know who that is. That starwars fella?

😜, I thought so the moment I saw it, way too much, way too quick.
reply
It reeks of desperation to me, tbh

reply
shhhhh 😉
reply
Its not possible, right? Unless you take the time to fund multiple accounts. And what is the point? If a post is good, it will get zapped.
reply
Plenty of stackers have multiple accounts. Anon zaps can also be done. I guess if it's done judiciously it would fly under the radar.
reply
But it is not done judiciously? Have I interacted with people who have multiple accounts?
reply
There is no way of knowing.
reply
I know, I have a list building...
reply
You have a list? Can l see it?
reply
yes, send me 10M sats :)
reply
On which one of your accounts? 😀
Is this part of your SN wallet money laundering idea?
reply
I bet they notice when it happens and are keeping an eye on it.
reply
No. It is more sophisticated that part. Using sockpuppets and zap yourself is stupid easy and can be "seen".
reply
How can it be seen?

@koob Are there a lot of double accounts zapping their own posts? Am I playing a rigged game?

I've done this by mistake on Nostr more times than I care to admit.
reply
I guess this is people who want to bump their post up the rankings/promote it, so why not just make self zaps funds that go to the pool, because it's just another form of ads/promotion
reply
It sounds like @k00b's boost idea will accomplish this
reply
It's looks like jacking off. On the other hand zap me who never jacked off.
reply
Okay
reply
Stacker News clearly labels them as "boosted" so I don't see it as an issue because it's so transparent
reply
stackers have outlawed this. turn on wild west mode in your /settings to see outlawed content.
