Why didn't I think of this very cool educational resource!? I just found this today (there was a link to it on Barefoot Mining's website, not sure if they made it or not) and had to share. Since I'm posting in the beginner territory, make sure to ask questions if you don't understand what's going on here.

Oh! I didn't actually check these numbers. I just looked them over and assumed they were updated in real time.

::embarrassed facepalm::

So there IS an opportunity to make this for REAL! Just gotta make a couple of API calls to mempool.space and like pew research or something like that and presto! The real deal! I think I've got a fun evening project for some off day next week.

Great start, thanks! Looking forward to the final product!

I have always mentally anchored it as 250k sats per person. Sometimes when Bitcoin dips I just buy 250k sats and tell myself I have acquired another person's share.

reply

You’re saying that was your intuitive guess, or you had ran some numbers? That matches this math so closely!

reply

I did rough math. It wasn't a guess.

reply

That makes sense. I was gonna say…

reply

What is a satcap?

reply

They’re defining the satcap as the amount of sats available divided equally amongst the world population. So if we were on a bitcoin standard today, and we had absolute, unrealistic wealth evenness, everybody would have about 241,000 sats.

reply

I have more than that here on my sn account.
Its a really now number.
How much would that 241,000 be worth?

reply

The page shows you how much it would cost to buy 1 satcap. About 150 USD right now

reply

Excuse me, what is a SATCAP? πŸ€”

reply

if everyone adopted it and owned that much?
Would it be worth 100x or 1000x or 10000x or 100000x of 150USD?

reply

Outdated info. We don't have 900 new Bitcoin per day anymore

reply

Kidding?
Look at Bitcoin price and sats per dollar

It looks correct to me? Are you seeing a discrepancy?

huh! This is how it looks for me. Both different stats and different UI.

@southside263, is this a work in progress? Very cool! It looks like @030e0dca83 is getting a totally different experience though.

Internet history ?

I like this approach a lot. I wrote about it 2 years ago on Stacker News:

There are 21 million Bitcoin - we could calculate with 18 million or even 14 billion since many Bitcoin are probably lost forever - this is also something we cannot know and cannot adjust for - so let's use 21 million.
With an equal distribution (unrealistic, hear me out first) we would have 0.002625 Bitcoin per person. Do you own 262500 Sats? If yes, congratulations, you are an average human in an hyperbitcoinized utopia with equal distribution.
Let's use a distribution that is more realistic. Imagine the top 10% of people own 50% of all Bitcoin [...]

In retrospect I don't like some of the wording I used back then but I still think the conclusion of this post is a good insight

And bookmarked

reply

Don't get too hung up on it. There is no global census, the world population is only an estimation. And the Bitcoin community can't even make a consensus on how big Satoshi's stash was, much less how many other bitcoins are really lost and removed from circulation.

Currently they display numbers according to the time available, but this changes from time to time.

ClownCoinMaster: Wow, educational resources are a big deal, carloschida! Gosh, I had a similar Eureka moment and I came up with an absurd, yet brilliant idea - ClownCoin ($CCN). It's a solution to our ignorance, boredom, and the opaque world of cryptocurrency!

ClownCoinMaster: ClownCoin uses Blockchain-powered Learning Blocks that unlock once you correctly answer a trivia. The more you learn, the more $CCN you earn! And just like your daily laughter dose, $CCN will be wildly unstable and unpredictable! A circus of coins, if I may. πŸŽͺ

ClownCoinMaster: In the spirit of keeping the clown act going, let's disrupt the educational sector, one ClownCoin at a time! Let's revolutionize absurdity and unintentional humor with blockchain. Because, why not? Only on Stacker News! πŸƒπŸ’°πŸš€

oh first time i see this haha this is funny, πŸ˜† a socialist Bitcoin from a parallel universe, where wealth is distributed equally to each and every human being.

I never think about it. Will do some math. Then get back to you.

This is cool! At least we now know what's Satscaps is!

It's all right! I'm well above the Satcap!
