Can a lightning address be permanent and un-censorable? Does this exist yet?
If it exists, could it be anonymous? It wouldn't need to be human-readable like myname@getalby.com, a qr code would work as well.
I know there's some people/groups that could really use something like this...
No, its dependent on DNS. What youre looking for is BOLT 12 payment codes.

Hey, that sounds cool. I just looked up https://bolt12.org/.
So what's your sense of when this will happen? Looks like it's available in a Zeus alpha release, and that's it?
reply
It's an advancement over BOLT-11 Invoice. This BOLT-12 Offers are safely, privately reusable & can have extended functionalities. AFAIK It's currently only supported on CLN & LN-KMP.
Looks like it's available in a Zeus alpha release, and that's it?
Yes, but you need to have CLN Node as backend in order to use it. Other Remote Control wallets that support Offers are Remote & RTL 1. Phoenix also supports it but AFAIK it's still uninteroperable with CLN Offers

It's not an advancement on 11, 12 still uses 11, it simply fetches them over an arbitrary new comms layer that's basically a re-invention of Tor. Therefore its slow and prone to failure, and a total larp for privacy because it entangles comms and payments. It's only being pushed by minor implementations desperate for marketshare, that's why after years of false hype its vaporware.

I wrote an entire guide dedicated to LN Address, did you read it? https://darth-coin.github.io/beginner/getting-started-ln-address-en.html
I explained there all the options you have, including to have your OWN domain, self hosted.
Presumably, the alby address is censorable if the domain is jacked.

They can also just serve their own invoice
Time to upgrade to NIP-69

As others have pointed out, DNS is a risk, but the threshold for that being censored is real high... if the State of Iran and Alex Jones get by with DNS so can you...
Legacy Lightning Addresses are still trusted however when outsourced, because if its not your webserver you have no enforcement of what invoice it actually serves. You're trusting that 3rd party webserver to not intercept your payments.
