@alby I have a burst of energy and nothing else big to do today, so I want to dedicate a lot of time to setting up a lightning node.
I'm pretty decent at tech in general, but this will be my first self-custodial lightning node (outside of Phoenix, which was kind of managed).
So - I've heard a lot about Alby Hub recently, is it the way to go? If I run into roadblocks, is there a forum/telegram group/discord where people will answer questions?
Are there other options which are as good/better?
is there a forum/telegram group/discord
They do have Telegram & Discord hive (because "bee")
Are there other options which are as good/better?
Blixt/Zeus is the GOAT of mobile node fr
  • No such thing as "node down" bcs it's in your phone
  • Safer hodl invoice UX (bcs of persistent LND)
  • No more goofy UX "pls keep open the app to complete payment" (bcs of persistent LND)
  • The SPV model is Neutrino instead of Electrum server
  • Maximum control over Chan management (still can get help)
  • Taproot chan is the GOAT of LN channel
  • LN address (even Blixt has 0% LN address fee)
  • Keysend
  • Clear & detailed chan info (fee, feature, etc)
  • Humble community fr fr
  • Passphrase on top of 24 words aezeed (longer to brute-force, quantum computer get lost!)
  • Free costumer support from @DarthCoin
Trade off :
  • Late to enjoy splicing bcs LL too busy with their TapAss
  • Late to enioy Offer bcs LL too busy with their TapAss

Don't bother with OP. He's been around for more than a year and still didn't learn anything. No matter how much you try to explain him bitcoin stuff, will still keep asking and posting meaningless stuff. I lost hope with him.
Some people NGMI.

If you have energy then maybe not Lightning.Pub, it only takes 2 minutes to get going and start inviting friends/family to use the node
Also gives you one wallet in all the places because shockwallet syncs devices over Nostr
And the self-custodial Lightning addresses via NIP69 are actually self-custodial and future-proof
It's over-powered af but also easy, so if you got energy maybe go the hard route with something else ;)

Ha, I just saw the smiley at the end, before I was thinking that your message was a little confusing...

Alby Hub is super easy to set up and it's simply working lightning node. Embedded NWC is still catching up, soon most apps will use.
Subaccounts (friends & family) is a killer feature

Update - I've got my Alby Hub set up!
I first tried out my Linux machine (running Mint) and it failed upon trying to start AlbyHub with the error: error while loading shared libraries: libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
From some research on that, it appears that perhaps Alby Hub is using an older version of libwebkit2gtk? I found a lot of info on it, but no easy fixes with my level of Linux skills. I'll probably try to get a docker instance set up, but that will take some research.
So for now I'm testing it out now on my Windows machine, and it is working fine. Lots to learn still. It looks like Alby is no longer posting on their telegram group, and are encouraging everyone to email their support line. Wish they still had a community group, but I have found that their email support is good, just not available weekends.
I've successfully received to it (small amounts), only from 1 wallet though, another failed. Would be interesting to figure out why the failures occur.
