I guess it all comes down to how you think about Bitcoin.
Either the value of Bitcoin in dollar terms doesn't matter to you, the same way the value of Dollars in Korean Won don't matter to Americans who never plan on selling their Dollars. 1btc = 1btc. The true maxi mindset.
Either you estimate that your zaps will be able to buy more in the fiat world if btc 10xs. Or even in a bitcoin standard world. 100 sats are worth less now than 100 sats in a bitcoin standard world.
I'll be happy to hear arguments too for the other options.
As a side note, for (potential) territory owners, what will be your thoughts if territory fees don't change either in such scenario. If you still need to convert dollars into btc to pay the monthly fee, 600 dollars/month is quite steep a change compared to 60dollar/month. And does this consideration of future behavior affect your thinking in deciding if you (will) keep paying monthly or switch to paying the lump-sum?
Could this also explain the fact people seem to be less generous with their zaps compared to 1 or two years ago, when bitcoin was priced lower in dollar terms?
No, I'll keep it the same. 1btc = 1btc44.4%
Yes, I'll decrease it.36.1%

Good topic, I have 2 comments:

Zaps

I think it might depend on if k00b and SN team decide to support millisatoshi (.001 Sats) in the future. I am guessing they support this in the database already but I don't think the SN UI allows zapping less then a sat
I could see a day when one might be able to zap .069 sats on SN. If this functions gets added I will probably decrease my default zap.
The office space team already does this

Territory

I have often wonder if there will be any change. Does anyone know if k00b has spoken about changing territory fees? Either up or down.

millisats are in fact supported in the database. Or at least they were last time I was in the codebase

i hope we'll start dropping nuts in a stacker.news nut fork
reply
That would be nuts 😂
reply
What would be the incentive for that, for you?
reply
making it fun and easy for everyone! like a game. stacker.news is demonstrating that already, so stacker.news on a cashu standard would have to be even better.

At some point you may look back and go someone zapped me 1000 sats 😲will be like the bitcoin for pizza story

i already think that 1000 sats is a lot for an idea.

Yes I think so as well but it happens plenty on sn

Dollar-terms no, value-terms yes. Zaps are mostly for fun in the piece of bubble gum to candy bar range. Starts to mean something around the coffee level and gets serious when it can pay for lunch or dinner. I love that all of the above are within a tap or three.

First, I dont know. I dont know if I will remain on this site long enough to see a change in how I zap. As I have gotten more, I have become more generous with my zapping. But I am starting to become more picky how and who I zap depending on the content. I have noticed my comments are starting to pick up more zaps, maybe because I have been here a while? But at the end of the day, I believe I will keep zapping the same way, unless the whole site changes all together towards a certain direction.

I am hazy on the exact timeline, but my default zap here was about half what it is now when bitcoin was under 20k in 2nd half of 22 and beginning of 23. I never really thought about it honestly.

I accept any answer to this question. I don't fight with reality and I don't know people's financial condition to make any kind of judgment
reply
Since a sat is so small I would not change my zaps at all. If we were talking much, much more, I might lower the number of sats per zap.
reply
Likely won't change but it will be dependent on all other stackers behavior to a degree. If I am zapping 50 or 100 sats and everyone else is zapping 1, I will probably change too.
reply
Yeah, instead of spending like 5 cents to like a post I’m not going to spend 50 cents. I’ll just adjust the sats I zap
reply
I'd focus on investing rather than zapping I think...
But first of all I'd fortify my existence so that I can be more effective in the fight for freedom!
reply
I think that will depend on others too. If others will start dropping their zaps and you won't get that much you're getting now, at a certain point you'll have to change it, drop it.
I think it's already happened here. If you look at last year's posts and comments and compare it to nowadays, there's a huge difference.
I can't say if that's due to dollar going down against Bitcoin or anything else.

21 sats = 21 sats, now and in the future.
