Is Alby desktop a good solution? Should I open a public channel for podcast? Is it worth 17k hard earned sats?
This is the question, and here is why such a ridiculously low amount (in fiat) matters:
Now, I've been preparing for this crusade the past couple of years, hopefully that explains a bit of the psychology here!
My goal is to push the envelope as hard as I possibly can when it comes to living like a Bitcoin monk or peasant while producing content & revenue streams via mainly Lightning so that I can bridge the next 6 months to a couple of years, making rebellion a living: #669330
I have used Alby for Nostr for a while, great setup of course!
There are so many apps and options out there, if it was not for this mental challenge I've set myself I'd of course invest in & try all of them out...
But as of now I cannot help but feeling that I need to check here!
I will come around to plugging in as many platforms as possible, with the goal of reaching Nostr, SN and Bitcoin Lightning users with my Rebel Nomad ramblings ;-)
Is Alby desktop a good solution?
YES. Easy to setup, easy to manage.
Should I open a public channel for podcast?
Not really necessary. Public channels are ONLY if you want to route others payments. I explained in more details in this guide.
Is it worth 17k hard earned sats?
For what? To open channels? NO! Do not open LN channels for less than 500k sats as private channels) and less than 3M sats as public channels.

Thanks!
So many gotchas, as always with early tech...
Will catch up with the links you've shared, in the order that fits my pushing of content :-)
With new tech I always pretend to try things out without digging into all the details. That gives me a better idea of how the average user will do with it all, and that then gives me pointers to how mass adoption will shape up.
And with Bitcoin, Lightning and Nostr its flat out impossible to dig into it all, which is good, then that which just works will float to the top!

Albyhub is the way to go.
As far as nostr apps go, checkout:
Npub.pro zpay.live shopstr fountain zap.stream wavlake
the nostr ecosystem is getting pretty wild.

I know, been there maybe a year and a half by now!
There are snags and trouble with them all, of course... Also I'm playing this as if I'm an ignorant end user who also can't spend sats, only earn.
Why? Although I can delve into & tweak most tech that can't be the focus when producing and spreading content!

Zapvertising is a thing.
You can bulk zap a couple of cuckbucks worth of sats to the wider nostr ecosystem while giving them a message.

Yeah I know about it, but at least when it was started many didn't like the idea...
But I'll check it again, of course!

Hey man! Happy to see you excited about this journey and embracing value-4-value and... self custody!
After all, you gotta pay something for using the Lightning Network: either with your data & risk (custody) when using a third party, or with sats for the infrastructure and owning UTXOs - when noderunning on your own. Full sovereignty comes with some cost and effort, but with #AlbyHub we're trying to minimize it. It's not that big price, but unavoidable today - and if you run your own device, the amoung goes to cover onchaing fees and some fee charged by an LSP.
Make a decision yourself if it's worth it, we're happy to help!
Also, we're not sure if anyone but Fountain enables custodial wallet for podcasters today (?)

Alby is great, yes!
For anyone who want to earn serious sats I don't think it matters too much if the solutions you use to receive sats are self-custodial or not, as long as you can pull it onchain say once a week, or even through other payment gateways into fiat or goods.
It seems to me that its not possible to set up Alby desktop without opening a channel?
For now I've pulled what I had with Alby custodial into Phoenix, then onchain into Cake. Around 1100 sats in total, if I got the numbers right.
Ease of use and workflow is by far the most important with the focus I have!
Will probably get around to testing out Alby desktop for real once I decide that the whole project is going forward, I need to see it grow steadily until I invest what I have onchain now...
