Is that a prediction or a postdiction? Because, that's a decent description of what's been happening.
Watch the entire interview. It was done in 1984.
I can confirm all he says because I know very well how communists are operating (after 20 years living in communism).
America is a communist playground right now...

I wouldn't call them communists in the pure sense. They have learned that communism doesn't work. But they have adopted many of the same practices. Many of the original NeoCons were communists before "switching sides".
In government schools here in the US they focus on the single party aspect of Communism. Not the central planning and complete control by the state. The USSR would have loved to have the state police system the US has today. The NSA, CIA, and FBI are insanely powerful.
The US defeated communism by adding fascist partnerships with corporations and spending the USSR into the ground. The destroyed their enemy and now are well on their way in creating a new cold war.
Its a rather sad state of affairs.

What I'm saying is its actually worse than real communism. Because it has just enough of free market capitalism to keep it from self destructing. China has learned this lesson to some extent as well loosening up.
Honestly, this whole topic is why a lot of us just say "statists". It covers all the evil.

well said, in just one word.

Exactly, although if you read Hoppe's A Theory of Socialism and Capitalism you might also stop making distinctions between different types of statism and just identify all of them as socialist.
reply
I need to read that.
Honestly. I get asked by family and friends what the difference is between communism and socialism and it isn't a simple answer. I don't think many people realize that many leaders in these systems we call communist called themselves socialists. Not communists. There isn't a big difference and we should not be happy with how popular socialism has become. Its a bad sign of how weak the intellectual right really has been.
My theory is that the right is either just to dumb or they like the state to much to really properly destroy socialist ideas. Anarchists and Libertarians do a far better job.
Of course socialists do a far better job of critiquing the American Left than do Conservatives. Its just annoying to listen to right wingers call US politicians communists when there isn't a huge difference in the two parties.
Harris is saying a bunch of crap that plays well with left wingers. If she was in the UK she would not be accepted by the socialists. The US is just so politically ignorant.

As you pointed out with China, the ruling elite have settled on a similar playbook just about everywhere.
Something I used to talk about with my Chinese colleagues was how China and the US have been converging to the same form of governance.
reply
Yep. I think it is a mistake to mislabel this as communism. That cedes the ground won against the system. It fails. It always fails. Even if it were not done by evil men it would fail.
So when you call the US or China communist you make it seem like it doesn't fail. Same goes for calling Sweden socialist. Its not. They have social welfare but they are market economics.

Let's hope the current tensions remain cold. It increasingly seems like we're heading towards hot war.

It really pisses me off. I've paid attention to this stuff since I was a kid and the 80s. I remember the fall. I remember when relations with Russia were on the good path (so it seemed). I'm not trying to paint this as Putin is a good guy or victim. He's not. He's a pawn really. And so are most politicians. It seems obvious to me that there has been an effort to create tensions over decades and create conflict. Fortunes are being made off of the deaths of plebs all over the world. Its not new, but I wish more people could zoom out and see how they are manipulated into this stuff.
These people in power are not like us. They are not our friends. They do not work for us.
reply
It's always upset, at least since I first really thought about the human carnage of war as a teenager.
Since having a kid, though, it's absolutely infuriating that these psychopaths play around with humanity's future in this way.
reply
Gotcha. Very good prediction then. I don't have time to listen right now.
