Hi as stacker.news transitions non custodial on Nov 5th, I'd like to share another option for attaching a wallet using ecash.
First @supratic has already done an excellent job attaching various wallets to stacker.news and creating guides. You should have a look here.
In this post, I want to walk you through my setup of attaching Minibits Wallet using ecash.
To start, some simple definitions to keep in mind re: what ecash is, and what it is not:1
Ecash is NOT Bitcoin
Ecash is NOT a replacement for self-custodial Bitcoin
Ecash is NOT a blockchain
Ecash does NOT live on a ledger
Ecash is NOT a new technology (it predates the worldwide web)
Ecash IS incredibly private
Ecash IS peer-to-peer
Ecash IS a bearer instrument
Ecash CAN be used offline (either sender or receiver)
Ecash CAN be minted by either a single party or by a federation
Ecash IS a great complementary technology to Bitcoin
Please note that this setup with Minibits is a custodial solution, which means you're trusting the Mint to manage your funds. Be aware of the risks associated with this approach.

1️⃣ Setup Wallet

When installing Minibits, you'll see introductory screens that you can either read or skip. Once you've completed these steps, you'll be prompted to choose between:
  • Got it, take me to the wallet or
  • Recover lost wallet
Select Got it, take me to the wallet to proceed.

Backup

Before proceeding, it's essential to back up your wallet. To do this, go to Settings > Backup and export your Wallet backup. Save this file securely and make a note of Your seed phrase.

2️⃣ Create Minibits wallet address

Next navigate to Contacts and customize your dedicated Minibits wallet address by tapping Change > Change wallet address. Enter your preferred address.
Next you will be asked for a small Donatation You should definitly consider that if you want to support the project.

3️⃣ Create a NWC connection

To create a NWC connection, follow these steps:
  • Go to Settings > Nostr Wallet Connect > Add connection
  • Name your connection something descriptive, like SEND STACKER NEWS @username to identify the application and associated user account
  • Set a maximal daily limit to spend
  • Tap Save to complete the setup

4️⃣ Attach Minibits address to stacker.news

Attach lightning address to receive

Now that you have your Minibits wallet set up, it's time to attach it to stacker.news.
Follow these steps:
  • Copy your Minibits address.
  • Go to stacker.news > Wallet > Attach wallet > Configure lightning address
  • Paste your lightning address
  • Set your desired balance to 0
  • Set your max fee total
  • Tap on Save to complete

Attach NWC connection to send

To enable sending with your Minibits wallet, follow these steps:
  • In Minibits go to Settings > Nostr Wallet Connect > Select your created connection > Copy
  • Switch to stacker.news > wallet > attach wallets > NWC attach
  • Paste the connection string into the connections for sending field
  • Confirm that your desired balance and maximum fee rate are set correctly.
  • tap attach to complete the setup.
That's it! Congratulations, partner! You've successfully linked an external wallet and can now ride off into the sunset without relying on Cowboy credits. Yeehaw!

5️⃣ Drawbacks

While I've been using the Minibits Wallet for a few weeks, I've encountered some issues. Occasionally, payment sending fails, which might be due to activity issues, as mentioned by @Darthcoin?
Additionally, the NWC connection sometimes detaches the wallet, but I assume that is related to re-entering credentials requirement when using different devices and is already highlighted in the Disclaimer.
Other than that I'm a happy Cowboy using ecash for my stacker.news adventures.

I would add something: In user profile, activate "Batch receive". That will make easier to receive small amounts into a single one and have better organized tokens.

Yes I have enabled that as well. Thanks for mentioning!

anyways, CCs are better for SN.

Set mine up with cashu.me and npub.cash. Its rusty, but gets the job done. If minibits had amber support i'd be "all in" with my 3k satoshi's.

How is it working for you?It was working well for me for about a week but then started having issues. Payments have been failing, but receiving has been working. They are currently working through some security issues I saw.
reply
Yes similar issues last days. Also just on the sending side. Where did you see the secruity issues info?

And with minibits app you can harvest my saloon nuts 🌰
reply
Yes! I'll probably need to enable notifications if I want to stand a chance of grabbing some nuts 🌰

As you said they aren't real Bitcoin, so how can I get real Bitcoin? Is there a mechanism to convert them to sats?
reply
Just use a real self-custodial wallet, preferably the one that can handle both Onchain & Lightning

Nice one! Thank you! :)
