It’s safe to say that the day before the election that the temperatures are starting to rise. The biggest example of this was last week when Capitol Police and Secrete Service closed down the area around the Supreme Court including the street in front of it. In the announcement they titled it “SCOTUS Police Enhanced Security Posture” and announced the changes that were going to be made including the addition of the tall unscalable black fence.
Over the last week the number of Police has also skyrocketed with them either patrolling or riding bikes in groups around the Capitol area. Typically I only see the police on bikes at most in a group of 2 maybe 3 and only in very specific areas. Now they are groups of 4 to 5 and all over the place in the Capitol Complex.
I’m pretty sure they are pulling in the Metro and Regular DC Police Force as well because well… there has been a WILD spike in shootings, stabbing, robberies, etc. in the District over the last 2-3 weeks. Right now while it is pretty safe to walk around during the day once it starts to get dark honestly go home. There has been a curfew in place for teens for months now which did lead to a decrease in this stuff which leads me to think that the Capitol is pulling resources away from other areas.
While I was home a couple of weeks ago the police had a ton of drills up here including active shooter, mass casualty event at the Capitol and more. I guess I should say I am “happy” they are “prepared” but given the whispers and the general unease amount staff… I don’t think what I have gotten myself into it seems.
If Trump wins I think parts of LA are going up in flames.
If Kamala wins I think people are just going to complain on the internet.

I have a question, who are the police going to defend? It seems like a stupid question, but no, the answer is supposed to be "the defenseless people" "victims", but the reality is "whoever pays them the best". I find it disturbing how wild the United States has become in recent years, it was supposed to be a safe place, a dream country. Everything the left touches turns to shit.

Have you seen the stories about P'Nut the Squirrel? Or Daniel Penny?
It's indeed a very good question who the police are even bothering to defend these days.

Yes, I saw the news. There are no words to describe the idiocy and evil of that case. The good thing is that in the United States it is legal to carry weapons, do not trust anyone, take care of yourselves.

It's going that way. Our neighborhood just banded together to hire private patrols. Irony is that a lot of these folks had "defund the police" yard signs out just a few years ago.

Um so as a staffer in Congress the average pay is much worse than the private sector without any of the good benefits. Factor in that it is incredibly hard to own a gun in DC not to mention we can’t even take pepper spray into the Congressional Office buildings I’d say we are pretty defenseless.
I don’t work in the headline grabbing area or where you would get click bait. I work in the basic sciences area with the National Labs, with academia, with moonshot projects. One day one of these projects could change everything and we are seeing that with quantum computing and hell AI came from the National Labs as well.

Super surreal tbh it doesn’t seem like it’s happening tomorrow and everyone on the hill is just going about things (granted us here are few and far between)

This only happens in democracy. It's one the drawbacks of so called best government system.
I'm happy for you guys that police is doing their duty well. In India election times are much worse than this. However it's much improved over the past 15 20 Years. The elections have been rather peaceful. I hope people will act with in their wits and remain calm after the elections.

110% agree it comes with the territory! Being on The Hill during Jan 6 was rough to say the least and I know that’s a factor playing in the back of my mind
