It took Orange Man and her feeling pretty dejected by the election outcomes to push her over the edge. Bitcoin = the most tangible and visible way to opt out, a vote-of-no-confidence in discretionary monetary policy (but, also, political machinery...).
She has asked tons of questions over the last ~3 months, consumed maybe 5 hours of material and probably thought about bitcoin for something like 50 hours in total. So it wasn't entirely out of the blue.
Still, @siggy47 has a point (#755832): Maybe the circus did some good.
(All zaps will go to her, obviously).
I have a similar story to girlfriend, just earlier, last election. My advice is find someone you actually like listening to and focus on that, rather than trying to spread your interest too thin and get overwhelmed with choice. For me, that was Alex Gladstein at first, so I just listened to any podcast he went on. Then it was dergigi. And once I began to understand more, and locate my special interests within bitcoin, I could take in more things.

Ask her, is she buying Bitcoin to have more dollars?
reply
Boom. Exactly

that is the litmus test, isn't it!

who is @Fabs?!
Just a guy who used to be very active here until he stumbled upon a hobby called sewing, which quickly turned into a passion / obsession and is now consuming me from within... But I'll be back once the dust settles and I've got some "creations" to my name...
The relation / backstory with me and Suave is one that could make you lose some brain cells, proceed on your own responsibility!.. 🥲

let's effing go.
Not attached to my braincells!

I'm currently working on my own pouches for my backpack, but plan to offer them for sale once I'm happy with the results.
I'm also going to make items like bottle / canteen pouches, Beavertails et cetera.

Thankfully, my wife doesn't have too much inclination towards any form of money. I don't know why? I never dare ask her. She's more spiritual and religious, maybe. But after the birth of our first kid, I've seen some changes in her stance. Mey be she's taking more interest now because she's on a leave. Every now and then she asks me a few questions regarding what is Bitcoin and how it works as money. She isn't so much technically sound but she seems to understand the basics. I told her that I'll be putting aside a percentage of our Bitcoin for our kid and she accepted. I was surprised for before the birth she used to talk a lot about managing a recurring fiat deposit in bank.
reply
She got the price she deserved and welcome to the club!

I dont know. We wont know the effects until later.

She's a keeper, lucky you.

I would like to think so:)

Always try to have more Bitcoin than you did the previous month.
reply
that is wonderful advice

My wife just uses Bitcoin as a savings account. She converts a bit of fiat every couple weeks to Bitcoin.

this is the way like they say on reddit ;)

is "got off zero" a common phrase for starting to own bitcoin? I haven't heard it
reply
yep!
The extreme version of that is "get on zero" which, confusingly, means to use zero fiat (=live entirely on bitcoin)
reply
cool- thanks!
reply
The SN version of "get on 0"

bruh i'm pretty close to 0. most posts I was making were 100 sats then I posted in the health category and didn't notice it was 1,000 when I posted.... Not worth those sats
reply
Yeah there's a few with post fees much higher than the others.
They can be changed by founders on a whim, so it's a good habit to always double check the cost.
reply
Thanks- lesson learned for sure, and I've got sats I can used to refill. Appreciate the people throwing some sats my way too
reply
That is their typical behavior after watching a real circus. Although politics is the craziest circus of them all. I don’t blame her for being orange pilled. This is way better than Keynesian level stagnation.
reply
reply
Good for her!
My only advice is to keep learning more about it and keep looking for ways to stack those sats.

No
She likes property and property has pretty much only gone up for the last 10 years I'm Australia. I think this is why I haven't been able to convince her even though Bitcoin has obviously out performed.
reply
I'm based in NZ and the same close to blind faith belief in property is widespread here too. It is understandable as property has been mostly going up since 1990 when interest rates peaked at close to 20%. The steady decline in the price of debt has seen people (keenly assisted by banks) pump up property prices with debt leveraged finance. The constant inflation of property prices has resulted in a near universal belief that the price inflation will continue- but with interest rates now trapped in a low range that is unlikely. However my motto is only invest in Bitcoin if you understand fiat (98% of the population doesn't) and want to be part of the peaceful revolution to build an alternative.

Tell her: “welcome to the future”
reply
My brother was reluctant for years. I didn´t talk to him about bitcoin anymore because he would always get annoyed. But yesterday he finally came around and asked for my advice. I was happy to set him up. Perfect timing! One day later: BOOM, new ATH
reply
I sincerely think that we all have the opportunity to wake up from the fallacy of the system to know that fiat money is the degradation of currency and money itself and that Bitcoin is the only refuge we have and that we must continue working and staying humble to continue accumulating many sats, satellites for it. Bitcoin is the future.
