Hey Stackers,
I recently discovered a cool and hassle free way to live live off of Bitcoin and I am using it for almost 8 months now without any complaints. I love Bitcoin so much that I wish one day everything that we buy and sell be denominated in "sats" instead of "dollars". I used to buy gift cards on sites like Bitrefill but it was becoming a hassle to buy gift cards each time and then I discovered RedotPay, a Hong Kong based card provider that allows us to deposit BTC in a custodial wallet and auto convert it to Fiat when we decide to spend. It is a custodial wallet, hence we shouldn't deposit what we cannot afford to lose.

Virtual Visa Card:

They also provide a multi currency virtual card powered by Visa for a small fee (around 5 to 10 USD). The good thing is it can be added to Apple pay or GPay and be used on devices that support NFC. Once we receive the card it may sometimes take 2-3 days for it to work, because Visa has to sync your profile with other entities. Since we receive a Visa card, we need to complete a KYC and liveliness check.
Transaction fee: 0.5% FX Fee (for non USD payments): 1.5%

Physical card powered by Visa:

They also have options to order multi currency physical card and we can pay in POS or withdraw cash from ATM (for additional 2% fee). Fee to order a physical card: fluctuates between $70 to $100 US.
So far my experience has been good. The support people are "okay"ish but very helpful. Overall the product is great and cards are very convenient. If you know better options, do leave a comment. It feels great how fintech companies are leveraging Bitcoin to revolutionize payments. Go ahead and try RedotPay. Cheers!
That is not "living off bitcoin".... you are LITERALLY GOING BACK TO FIAT. By going to a merchant and present a VISA card to pay you are not making that merchant to accept BTC but support the fiat system.
THESE CARDS ARE TOTALLY TRASH FIAT. The whole point of Bitcoin is to avoid any other intermediary.
These cards are EXACTLY what Satoshi wanted to avoid.

So tell me, if you earn in BTC, how would you spend it, if you live in a country where crypto adoption is not yet happening? So you don't do fiat transactions at all? How do you manage to do that? Please teach me as well

in a country where crypto adoption
WTF is crypto adoption? It is Bitcoin or nothing. Each Bitcoin user is responsible for own adoption in his area. What did you do for that? Did you learn how to use Bitcoin or you were just trading shitcoins ? Did you teach merchants how to use Bitcoin or you just sell them VISA cards?
Please teach me as well
Read all my guides: https://darth-coin.github.io/ Here you have example of how you can pay directly with BTC https://darth-coin.github.io/merchants/bitcoin-lightning-payments-irl-en.html

I've helped a few business owners accept lightning BTC on their WordPress website by using some open source solutions. Not everybody is as genius as you. There are dumb people like me as well. And we can only do what we are capable of.

You cannot expect the whole world to move how you want it to move. You don't understand that do you? First tell me you never use fiat and I'll respect you and learn from you. Ofcourse I love bitcoin and I don't trade shit coins. You cannot attack some one for using fiat.
reply
I don't trade shit coins.
Yeah sure... liar !

Again not everyone understands everything from day one. I don't know what's your problem. If you don't like who I am, just ignore me.

Then first learn how NOT to be a shitcoiner. Then learn how to be a good bitcoiner. https://darth-coin.github.io/beginner/5-stages-became-bitcoiner-en.html Do not try to shitcoinize the Bitcoin world.
If you don't like who I am, just ignore me.
I can't just ignore shitcoiners... a real bitcoiner MUST defend others from shitcoiners and call them out.

Man this place is so toxic. I came here to learn a thing or two and share my experience. But many rude people here. I respect what you are contributing to the community, but bullying people who are starting off? Well done
This Virtual Visa Card sounds interesting to me. Still fees could add up or not?

This guy says fiat is a scam and when I continuously ask if he never uses Fiat, no answer! He just doesn't understand that it is almost impossible to avoid fiat especially for someone living in a third world country. If I earn in BTC and if not everyone accepts it, I just cannot spend it where I need. You cannot force it. It is a long gradual process. I am doing my part as well to help a few small merchants accept btc. I am still waiting for his answer about how to survive without using Fiat. I want to learn. I would be more than happy if there's a way!

So basically as per point number 6 you say that I should not educate my children because none of the schools accept BTC in my country. Duh! I support your love for bitcoin man because I love it too. But think practically! If I should ditch business and institutions that accept only fiat, I cannot educate my children. My wife will file a divorce if I don't give my children good education.

As if these guys are gonna understand. Why do you even try explaining? Lol 😂 They don't do anything to support Bitcoin adoption than sharing impractical suggestions.

Ah here it comes. I'm getting outta here real quick 😂 Bye guys! Enjoy fighting 😆
You cannot say he's done nothing to support bitcoin adoption. He has website to guide people how to transact using Lightning network. But yeah his suggestions are not practical though.

I re-checked their website. For the virtual Visa cards the charges are like: 1% for Transaction fee. 1.2% for payments made in currencies other than USD. If I pay in USD, I just pay 1%. If I pay in say Euros, it'll cost 2.2%. ATM withdrawal fees using a physical card adds another 2%.

How do you benefit from gift cards am new to this?

Let us say you earn in Bitcoin or if you are a long term "Hodl"er of Bitcoin. You can always hold your Bitcoin without cashing out to Fiat. Fiat loses its value over time to inflation and manipulation by the central banks. If you store your wealth in Bitcoin it won't lose its value like Fiat. I know it is volatile but in the longer term, its value has always risen. Another stacker has said in a comment that graphs show that Bitcoin has outperformed every other coin, fiat, or token. It turns out to be true!

these virtual visa and mastercards have never made sense to me, considering its pretty easy to sell sats for cash using robosats or bisq. i suppose if you dont have a bank acct or money service such as cashapp it could make sense but between the fees and kyc of these debit card services...dont understand how its helpful for the btc user or the movement to btc as a payment method as a whole.

In many countries especially India people's bank accounts are frozen if they deal their bitcoins to cyber criminals. The dirty money of those scammers end up in their accounts leading to the freeze. Just google and you'll know it. It's not easy for people in many countries.

Where were you all these days? Lol. Great post btw. 100 USD for a physical card is pricey, no?
