We've arrived at the final round of Group Play. Everyone survived this past round, although the Wolves almost let @gnilma down.

This will be the last opportunity to use a rebuy, should your pick lose this round. Once we're into the Knockout Rounds, it's single elimination.

My PickMy Pick

Normally, I like to wait until closer to the games, but I know I'm taking the Cavs this round. They've already been eliminated from the tournament and they're playing the lowly Wizards.

If you want to read up on who's likely to make/miss the Knockout Rounds, @gnilma had a detailed breakdown earlier today.

PrizePrize

We're just shy of 60k, so I'll just commit to the prize being at least 60k.

May the odds be always in your favor.

76ers trying to avoid 30th spot in my power rankings by changing their name to 75ers (It's so rare I see a typo from you. I have to say something. It makes me feel much better about the 30 or so I make per day).

I will take the former and future NBA champion Toronto Raptors.

reply

Ahhh! I've been doing more posts from my little laptop over the holiday weekend and I keep fat-fingering the keys.

It's a good thing for you that the future goes on for a long time, because the Raptors are going to need it.

reply

Correct. I didn't specify when in the future but I trust Masai. He will bring us another winner sometime before the 2032 halving.

reply

Can we get a Predyx market on that?

reply

That's a bit of a long bet. I am not sure anyone other than you and I would be interested in that.

reply

Maybe not yet, but we'd forget about it before it became interesting to anyone else.

reply

remindme bot should be able handle block-time.

I pick the Cavs.

Also, I'm pretty sure I picked the Grizzlies last round. I think @siggy47 was the one that picked the TWolves. Won by a nose hair on that one, but a win is a win, good pick.

Good luck everyone!

reply

You are correct.

reply

I misinterpreted the unbreakable code that these are stored in.

reply

Hmmm... I just realized the Celtics have played all their games and do not have a game tomorrow. That means their pt diff of +23 is set. In other words, if Knicks beat the Magic, that is it, Knicks will win group and Magic will be wildcard (unless Knicks beat Magic by more than 37pts, which I don't think will happen). If Magic beats Knicks, then Knicks will be out since they're +15 now, and it depends on how much Bucks beat Pistons (+28 now) if they do beat them. I don't know why somehow I kept thinking Celtics has another game, but I guess not.

This means Magic is highly likely to advance even if they lose, because of their high pts diff.

reply

That's right, which is why the Celtics making it seemed pretty likely to me.

However, the odds of both conditions being met are probably relatively low.

reply

It just takes the Knicks to beat the Magic by less than 37 points to keep the Celtics out, which I think is a rather likely outcome. Let's see what happens tonight. Looking forward to watching some good basketball.

reply

I’m deciding between Spurs, Suns, Blazers, Clippers since @gnilma doesn’t think any of them will make knockout.

Who should I take @grayruby? @Undisciplined?

This is why I need the odds!

reply

Don't trust my predictions, they're simply my personal views. If you're going with odds, I think Suns are favored over Spurs and Clippers favored over Trail Blazers. I don't know by how many points, but I would take the Clippers if I were you.

As well, while both Suns and Clippers still have a chance of making the knockout stage, I think Clippers have a lower chance due to sitting at low points differential now. But again, anything could happen in sports, so there's that.

reply

I'd add that in the case either the Suns or Clippers advance, the Suns are the better of the two, so you'd rather still have them available.

reply

Well, the Suns are seven point favorites over the Spurs.

reply

Clippers

I’ll take the advice of @Undisciplined and @gnilma. I don’t need to wait for @grayruby to derail me.

Let’s go LA! Portland is going DOWN!!

reply

Noted.

You can see that @grayruby took the Raptors, so you could have followed him down that road.

reply

Yes but Pacers are a good team and Raptors are not

reply

Yet. They will be. They are on the upswing.

reply

That's half true

Cavs me too

reply
reply

Cavs. I hope they don't carry on the losing streak and recover their pace.

reply

I don't know how this works but I'll take Rockets to win even though they're probably not the favorite.

reply

Sorry, you're both well past the entry point of the contest and anonymous.
