For a NWC funding source you need a static 24/7 online funding source, in order to be able to spend from.
A mobile app, will have the service closed after a while and is not reliable. I know Misovan is working on this feature (persistent mode) for Minibits but is not easy, especially with Android devices. Android is killing the processes after a while.
So do not rely 100% on that. Run a decent desktop node (with Alby is the easiest) on any PC at home, with 2-3 private channels and done, don't worry about anymore.
Mobile apps are more for "on-the-run" cases, not like SN.
That makes sense. The odd thing is NWC has worked fairly well in Mini-bits for me until recently. I need to block off time and get my node working with NWC though.

If you already have a node, just install AlbyHub and be happy

It should work with a node running over Tor right? If I understand how it works at a high level it should.

Yes. AlbyHUb use NWC, you do not need to expose your node to clearnet, open ports or anything. You don't even need public channels, works perfectly fine with private channels, for personal use.
Hmmm maybe I should extend my guide about Alby with more instructions.

I did, had issues. I think I was only able to make one payment. But, I need to try it again when I have more time to dig into it.
