I've been using https://www.minibits.cash/ app on GrapheneOS for my external wallet for a couple weeks. Thought I would provide an update.
Minibits is an eCash and Lightning wallet. It supports LNURL which is nice. Overall its the easiest and best eCash app I've tried. As others have mentioned I do have issues spending with NWC. But the LNURL support seems to work really well. I am guessing the NWC issues are related to their Lightning node liquidity because I often have failures with paying lightning invoices at the same time NWC payments fail.
I have a few mints set up and the CoinOS one seems to be more reliable.
Curious if others are using other NWC apps. For what its worth I have tried to set up NWC on my own node a few times now and it has been really inconsistent with Nostr apps. If I can even get it to make connections. I haven't had the time to figure it out yet.
For a NWC funding source you need a static 24/7 online funding source, in order to be able to spend from. A mobile app, will have the service closed after a while and is not reliable. I know Misovan is working on this feature (persistent mode) for Minibits but is not easy, especially with Android devices. Android is killing the processes after a while.
So do not rely 100% on that. Run a decent desktop node (with Alby is the easiest) on any PC at home, with 2-3 private channels and done, don't worry about anymore.
Mobile apps are more for "on-the-run" cases, not like SN.

That makes sense. The odd thing is NWC has worked fairly well in Mini-bits for me until recently. I need to block off time and get my node working with NWC though.

If you already have a node, just install AlbyHub and be happy

It should work with a node running over Tor right? If I understand how it works at a high level it should.

Yes. AlbyHUb use NWC, you do not need to expose your node to clearnet, open ports or anything. You don't even need public channels, works perfectly fine with private channels, for personal use.
Hmmm maybe I should extend my guide about Alby with more instructions. https://darth-coin.github.io/wallets/getting-started-alby-hub-en.html

I did, had issues. I think I was only able to make one payment. But, I need to try it again when I have more time to dig into it.

I was using NWC with Albyhub and minibits on the back end. It was working well for a while, buy then had some problems with some LN payments that didn't go through. Still waiting for help to fix it so back on custodial SN for now.
