I don't think self custody is going to be mainstream any time soon, if ever.
Even most of my friends who say they have Bitcoin, really just own it through an ETF, or Coinbase, or Robinhood, or something like that.
Exactly. And on that topic they very likely are more at risk of lose than you or I because of their ignorance or laziness with security.
I think people just have to learn the hard way. And there will be many rug pulls. I don't think it will ever end and it seems to be the way humans learn.

Yeah, but at the same time I am reluctant to recommend them self custody. I don't know if I trust them to keep their keys secure and I wouldn't want them to blame me if they mess up somehow.
