I think most stackers probably use a password manager of some sort. If you reuse the same password or a few passwords everywhere stop reading this and go sign up for a free Bitwarden account.
But how many people in your family and social circle still just have terrible password practices? Use terrible pin codes? Leave their phone laying around unlocked? Security is a sliding scale but I doubt my experience with this is unique. Most people I know would be VERY easy to hack.
The numbers reported online about password manager usage is higher than I would think at 36% of US adults. I suspect this is off on the high side. But with hacks every day and data breaches you would think more people would figure it out. Password management is so easy now. You can download a free open source password manager that is encrypted at rest and in transit. You can even self host it. You can keep it offline if you like. There are so many good options now.
What's my point? Do we really think the masses are ready for bitcoin? Do we really think they are ready to self custody? I don't. Am I wrong?
I'm not saying they will never be ready but as I have thought for a long time bitcoin is generational. Not just on the wealth side of things but also on the adoption side. What do you think?

I don't think self custody is going to be mainstream any time soon, if ever.
Even most of my friends who say they have Bitcoin, really just own it through an ETF, or Coinbase, or Robinhood, or something like that.

Exactly. And on that topic they very likely are more at risk of lose than you or I because of their ignorance or laziness with security.
I think people just have to learn the hard way. And there will be many rug pulls. I don't think it will ever end and it seems to be the way humans learn.
reply
Yeah, but at the same time I am reluctant to recommend them self custody. I don't know if I trust them to keep their keys secure and I wouldn't want them to blame me if they mess up somehow.
reply
For sure.

No. You are right and here is the proof:
These NPC will never be able to use properly Bitcoin.
See more... do you really think this girl will be able to handle a password manager? I don't think so.
As I always said:
All the rest will just die in their ignoreance.

she's pretty beautiful, DC. She doesn't need to do shit in her life, not even cook. Rich peeps will take goooood care of her

I know you are kidding but it is odd to me the mindset of younger folks about cooking. Like its a chore with no reward. Like its beneath them instead of a skill that makes anyone's life better. Not suggesting everyone should be a chef but the number of people that act like cooking is beneath them is just a sign of how messed up society has become. We have a joke in our house about cooking. The food tastes better when you cooked it yourself.

As a single guy I finally cracked cooking for myself. Getting a good toaster oven and pyrex glass containers. Now I'm actually making good meal-prep food that also tastes good reheated in a way that's super easy. Game-changer for me and now I enjoy it.

Slow-cooker is gonna be a game-changer for you!!
reply
Oh I have one of those too haha
reply
Oh man. For sure. Its like a cheat code.
reply
Right on. It's a super valuable skill. My wife and I have valued it highly in bringing up our sons. They can both cook for themselves and have for many years now.
reply
Yeah, many such cases.
