"Miners could move to proof of stake model." Dumb and dumber clash between EU and Bloomberg reporter
reply
Just change the code, bro!
At least that's what Ripple/XRP CEO paid millions of dollars to Greenpeace to tell us.
reply
Aha you crossed me what a beautiful oxymore ! MSM going to do everything to make bitcoin state controlled. By everything I mean nothing. In the end we'll drink their tears. I'm just surprised that Greenpeace getting ratioed on twitter, with all the bots at their disposition 🤔 They are too busy pushing pro war propaganda

I wanted to link the guidelines because you used your own, biased title and not just the title of the article.
But turns out the guidelines don't mention that one should use the original title: #81862
I thought they would because I know in the HN guidelines, it is mentioned.
@k00b, is this not mentioned on purpose or am I missing something?
reply
And, for reference, the title of the Bloomberg article is:
EU Puts Bitcoin in Crosshairs With Crypto Energy Labeling Plan

Thanks

I think the solution is to preview the page title bigger than the assigned title. Mere UX detail.
reply
You raise an interesting point. I kind of like the ability to toss in your two cents in this case, where a link to the article is provided, but I'm interested to hear arguments banning the ability to create your own title.
reply
I'm interested to hear arguments banning the ability to create your own title.
I did not mention I want to ban the ability to create your own title.
There are legitimate reasons to create your own title:
  • Article title is too long
  • Article has no title
  • Article title can't be parsed
  • Article title is bad (not descriptive enough; wrong etc.)
  • ... ???
The HN guidelines also mention this regarding not using the original title:
If the title contains a gratuitous number or number + adjective, we'd appreciate it if you'd crop it. E.g. translate "10 Ways To Do X" to "How To Do X," and "14 Amazing Ys" to "Ys." Exception: when the number is meaningful, e.g. "The 5 Platonic Solids."
However:
Otherwise please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize.

An archive of the article is here. An archive has no paywall, no subscription requirement, and can be easier to read.
reply
Do you create these archives? Or did someone else already and you just check and post it here?
reply
If an archive exists (and is recent), I use that. If the article has not yet been archived, I have archive.ph create one.
reply
Oh, interesting. How does it work for paywalls? I didn't find anything mentioned in the FAQ.
reply
I don't know the internals that they employ to get around the paywall. For some paywalls (e.g., Bloomberg) it handles them well. For others, such as for The Block, not so much.

By comparison, proof-of-stake mining -- which is now used by Ethereum -- can use 99.9% less energy than proof-of-work. The idea is that a labeling system could encourage other cryptocurrencies to make the switch.
In the event of an electricity shortage, countries must also be ready to stop mining activities, the EU will recommend.
reply
The EU wants to halt #bitcoin mining operations in northern Norway, Sweden, and Iceland in case of an energy emergency further south in Europe.
Energy is stranded in these places, so halting mining operations there will not lead to more energy on the continent.
reply
The EU is finished

One should ask them, if the washing machines are also in crosshairs. 😱
reply
Giving a relatively small group of people the power to decide what is energy efficient and thus legal and what isn't, what could go wrong
reply
The EU is literally a zombie
