Interesting post on dealing with new found wealth.

The point of this post isn’t to brag or gain sympathy. To be honest, I don’t exactly know what the point of this post is. I tried to manufacture one, but I just felt like a phony. Then I recognized the irony of creating purpose out of a blog post when I don’t currently have much conviction or purpose in life.
So I’ll just go ahead and explain my current situation for my own selfish purposes. To push myself to be completely (and awkwardly) vulnerable to a blob of nameless strangers over the internet. No expectations of what comes out of it.

Reminds me of the Rat Utopia experiments where they gave rats all material possesions they could want but deprive them of social interaction.

Basically there were two outcomes for males:

  1. Become hyper violent
  2. Become feminine and obsessed with grooming

The ideal scenario imo would be to find some kind of purpose/community no matter how small. As an example, I commend my mother's actions. She moved to a totally new community to retire where she didn't know anyone. She made it a point to:

  • volunteer every Monday to help the homeless
  • join a book club
  • take up pilates
  • go to happy hour with girlfriends from the above

It really doesn't take that much just a little bit of effort putting yourself out there.

They didn't deprive them of social contact at all, instead, the mice developed said traits after a given threshold was reached in regards to their population: The cage could sustain 10.000 mice I think, but after 400-ish, stated traits began to manifest.

The point of the experiment - If I remember correctly - is, that once a community grows too big, personal relations and roles and hierarchy falls apart, and things like above take place.

I can't get over the fact that this newly rich D-bag would go to the Himalayas with zero climbing experience, risking the lives of the sherpas there who work for peanuts. Too many wealthy people throw their money around irresponsibly like this treating the locals there like they are expendable.

Read a book about climbing everest

When he reached the summit, he felt totally deflated, depressed and unhappy

Then he realised the journey to the summit was the answer

We're all striving but we don't realise, we're actually living the good life right now

That's why all these self-help bros are always talking about living in the present

"Now I’m in Hawaii. I’m learning physics" is a man's version of eat, pray, love.

Left the 'big city' hustle and bustle of being in the DOGE discord server for enlightenment in the rainforest with a book on quantum mechanics. A true Shackleton of our age.

a lot of plebs will go through this over the coming cycles. it's a difficult spot but gives one time to redefine life based off their own internal values and following their own curiosity instead of those success markers foisted upon them by societal norms.

So now I’m in Hawaii. I’m learning physics. Why? The reason I tell myself is to build up my first principles foundation so I can start a company that manufactures real world things. It seems plausible, but I’m learning to just accept that I am happy learning physics. That’s the goal in and of itself. If it leads to nothing, that’s ok. If this means I’ll never do something as spectacular as Loom, so be it. It’s been too long since I’ve been completely raw and real with myself, so I’m applying a healthy dose of humility to everything I say and do. It’s the only thing that feels authentic.

Amazing story, well written. Great entertainment. You definitely overthink it. Highly recommend the eastern orthodox rabbit hole. Your issues are also easily explained with a bit of psychology. Frankl, Langer Positive Psychology crew maybe you learn a thing or two. You just fell out of your role and got a bit lost. But your a high achiever so most likely you'll find a new mission, just try lots of things. And if not, also fine nothing to worry about. Wisdom and knowledge acquisition is always a good option, not everyone has the privilege, good use of time. Do you consider yourself red pilled?

1- That man needs to go to the psychologist 2- I'll say something that might sound a little bad, but there are so many people who are literally suffering because they don't have the financial resources to feed themselves, have a roof over their heads, pay for treatment for serious illnesses... and he is suffering because he feels lost for having so much money? Obviously it is not his responsibility to solve the misfortunes of other human beings, but that is why I return to the starting point: He should go to a psychologist, do therapy to heal emotional wounds. 3- I'm sorry if I'm not empathetic. I hope you can overcome your difficulties.

First off, who makes their page black and has white letters? That is so difficult to read, my eyes are still hurting. At the very end of this piece, I felt like he hasnt figured out himself enough. He isnt comfortable being alone. Thats what it all boils down to. If he had been comfortable alone with his own thoughts, he wouldnt have even written the article.
