You know what's fascinating? Andrew Breitbart is famous for saying that "politics is downstream from culture", which I agree.
But last week, I heard Krystal Ball (a left leaning commentator) debate with her co-host Saagar Enjetti (a right leaning commentator) about the H1B controversy.
They were commenting on Vivek's comments about America's culture of entertainment & sports over academic achievement. Saager (an Indian-American) agrees with Vivek, but Krystal (a caucasian) disagreed that it was a cultural issue. And she said something along the lines of, "I don't think you can attribute it to culture. Our political and economic systems shape the culture."
So, two diametrically opposite views. One group thinks culture shapes politics, another thinks politics shapes culture. Could that explain some of the major discrepancies in worldview between the left and the right?
Krystal is being naive
reply
Yes, she is very naive. But, as much as I disagree with many of her opinions, at least she is willing to talk to people who disagree with her without calling them racists.

How low the bar has fallen that was once common is now rare.
reply
The bar is very low - this is the current reality for culture and politics

That’s fair

That is interesting but I do not think the right really gets how politics works. They might be closer to understanding than the left but the left is better at influencing culture. At least they have been in recent times(last 100 years).
reply
The reason I say the right doesn't get it is because they seem to focus more on elections and getting the "right" people in "power" than they do on culture.
I'd also add that politics does influence culture. I just don't think you can say it is the source. Both culture and politics influence each other.
reply
I agree that culture and politics both influence each other. And it's really tricky to define how a culture is shaped and what influences it.

Culture affects children ie people who are not eligible to vote but already have opinions on abortion and guns and transgender craziness
Edit:
On the other hand take a woke private school like Crossroads. The teachers and faculty order the children how to vote, who to vote for, who to demonize and hate. One reason the left succeeds beyond their numbers is they think about leftism 24/7. No days off

It is a religion.
